Refreshing white plastics
Refreshing white plastics
As Honda guys restoring vehicles, we usually don't restore hardware we replace. Well here's a helpful tip. This is used in auto, bmx , and even computer restorations use this. I planned on doing this to the discontinued white plastic that clamps on the abs lines but it won't come off without removing the abs lines it seems. I replaced the one that holds the washer fluid lines . It's pretty yellow. So I pulled two extra radiator elbows and caps for the experiment. I did this 10 years ago and it worked wonders . First thing you need is some salon grade peroxide. This stuff is a mild acid so wear gloves. In the salon industry this is known as clearer . Here's what you need.
You will need a clean container for whatever you plan to bleach. You also need to clean everything , that includes oil and and dirt that you can before the bath. In addition to this you need sunlight and lots of it. I started this for an example and rain showed up . It should soak in the bath for at least 5 days and sunlight. Keep in mind the stuff is aciditic, so monitor it and don't leave on vacation. I have been short on sun so this process is probably going to take longer than expected.
This is how yellow the 4 experiment parts went in. they are supposed to stay a week but rain came after one day.Re: Refreshing white plastics
See the bubbles? They are working magic. One of the floating integra elbows was brown on Sunday in the middle.

I pulled the civic reservoir after seeing success with the experimental parts. It's cleaned up better than expected, being there's no sun. Funny thing is I had a picture of it and it's missing again.

Coat as evenly as possible, give it some heat/uv, and wash with soap and water after.Stin1 wrote:So I can use that on the abs one ?aklackner wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 3:25 pm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retr0bright

FYI this is the same hydrogen peroxide thing, wiki has the history on variations over time.
