Mugen Gen 1 wing.. real or fake?
Mugen Gen 1 wing.. real or fake?
Hey guys, does this wing look authentic? I know it's been repainted so the badges are not original. My good friend and I are doubting it because the bottom of the wing doesn't look like Mugen quality (aka surfaces rough). Thoughts?

Re: Mugen Gen 1 wing.. real or fake?
The rough spots on the bottom could be due to painting over previously installed adhesive or foam that wasn't removed during the painting process. The only thing suspect to me is the amount of holes, otherwise it looks real to me. I'll try to get you a pic of what mine looks like this evening.

Yeah, I think the holes are a serious mark of issues. I don't know the Mugen wing but they're generally quality products frequently built around OEM molds. That is a stick on wing there's no "mounting" studs or moulded nuts.
I'd expect a Mugen wing to use the same OEM fixing (alignment at least). There's no studs and no threads inside the holes indicating fixed nuts on that wing that I can make out.
Double sided tape installs (beyond being ghetto) all but guarantee your OEM wing locations are going to leak\rust over time.

i agree absolutely 100 percent with this statement.. anything authentic would have proper mounting points whether threaded nuts inside the wing or threaded studs. if it had either of those it would be harder to question its authenticity.aklackner wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 5:30 pm Yeah, I think the holes are a serious mark of issues. Wow, thanks guys for the fast response!
From what I can tell, two of them are threaded which are more factory looking. It looks like the PO might have re-drilled some additional holes. I'll have to do some cleaning up of the double sided tape tonight.
Also, would anyone be able to chime in on the distance between the OEM studs of their wings? I might be able to verify this with the original studded holes on the "Mugen" wing vs. OEM.

Re: Mugen Gen 1 wing.. real or fake?
pictured is my spare wing and both sides only have the two threaded mounting holes. Unsure of the extra holes and why they are there
Im just seeing your request for measurements between holes, but I think it would be easier to try fitting it to the car— it should bolt up very easily to the existing threaded mounting holes. I believe the bolts needed are four M6
EDIT: Could you verify that you have a pair of threaded mounting holes on each side of the Mugen wing? I can't make it out from your photos.
Re: Mugen Gen 1 wing.. real or fake?
Correct. There are four OEM threaded holes. I've concluded it's legit so far. From what I've collected:
- It's been through at least 4 different cars so its used and the bottom of the surface reflects that with different layers of tape.
- PO drilled additional holes
-OEM threaded holes might have been re-threaded. 1 out of the 4 fits a 10mm bolt... the rest do not.
My car is in storage and the PO shaved the wing so I can't confirm how they line up with the OEM trunk line just yet.
