Replacement Axle?

Post by NOCSUCOW » Thu Oct 31, 2019 2:02 pm

My passenger side inner boot tore, joints likely fine. Driver side looks to join it soon.

I intend to keep it and replace the boots/grease/clamps after I pick up the clamp tool in the future.

In the mean time, what off the shelf replacements do you trust? I'm only 50whp over stock, don't drag race but launch only for autocross, and I do road courses.

I just pickup used OEM if I need. As long as boots are in good shape OEM units tend to be pretty bulletproof in my experience and that's also the advice I've received when chatting with Karcepts. Advice has been even gross looking used OEM over swap axles at rates they spin balance issues will quickly cause vibrations or worse.

Currently using Drive Shaft Shop (DSS) level 0, about 4 years now. They have held through street driving, autocross and 1 track event. Per dyno chart, 176 hp. is what they see.

I am using a raxle, but I also turned in my original OEM axle in as a core. I really can't complain, my passenger side is from 2013 and still looks good and my driver side is from this year after my original axle boot started to leak.

I do think he sells the axles without a core, but its closer to 300 per side without the core vs 200 or so. I do like how the raxles retain the rubber piece that the OEM axles have.

I was considering DSS due to price, but with raxles being in Florida, it meant I could get the axles with one day shipping.

It might be possible to get good oem axles at the junk yard. My friend picked up a set off an automatic integra a few months back.

I contacted Raxle and got a reply, although quality stuff I can't afford that option at this time. I do intend to keep the original and buy the oem boot and related parts.

I'm currently awaiting responses from local friends that I know have alot of Honda parts lying around to see if they have spares.

Otherwise, I guess what I'm looking for other than used OEM per above would be Napa, Bap Geon, O'Reilly, Autozone, Advance Auto....Not so much Insane shafts or related.

I'll still do open track days, time attacks, ....and I guess autocross with it until I can get the OEM one back in.

I've gone through a few axles over the years.

OEM are great.
Raxles are solid too.

I always test them by looking for play by rotating the two shafts counter to each other. The cheaper NAPA, etc. ones tend to have play there. It's not a big deal for a daily driver, but on track, it's annoying.

I like the old GS-R axles the best.

On my TSX, I opted to rebuild the axles instead of going aftermarket. Heeltoe had a TSX kit. Copy that to rebuild an Integra set might be an option?

The boot set is or was available for the em1 and our cars with different part numbers for each. They include the grease, boots ,bands, and the 32mm nut. My dc2 supplied version lacked the locking clips to attach the bands. The em1 version had burly bands and looked more durable and were complete. I have pictures somewhere on my thread. The boots were the same length. Part number may differ because of the band?

!!! The OEM DC2 kit, the bands that come with it don't close?

The ones I got from Acura did not have the little clamping piece for some reason.
