There is also the zealautowerks transmission calculators which is a pretty good resource for mixing and matching gear ratios and getting estimates on highway RPMs, etc.

I will say the shortened gear set really brought my car to life. The best upgrade I ever did to car.

I have the jdm 4.7 fd installed in my R. It makes the trans feel more like a "rally" operation, in terms of shifting more. It's a lot of fun. But it limits the driveability on the Hwy.

Once you go 4.9 though, suddenly you are close to being in VTEC at highway speeds. Unless of course you swap out to a GSR 5th like I currently have. But that can make 4th/5th shifts a little strange (especially on track) but once you get used to it its no big deal. Rev the shit out of 4th and youll still be in VTEC when you hit 5th. Good times!

FF-Squad and Zeal also offer calculators, but all seem to use outdated versions of Flash. Use at own risk. I'm considering an Excel approach and document the screen shots on our forums for the greater community. The 1998-2001 JDM 4.785FD transmission actually already comes with fourth and fifth from a GSR. This makes fifth gear in the 1999-2001 the same overall as in a 1997-1998 with the 4.4FD. So freeway RPMs are the same between the two. At the two track events I've done at the FIRM in Florida, I found to not like that 3rd-4th drop on the JDM 4.785 trans for downshifting and in some sections the slight power drop off. Could be track dependent though and my inexperience
