Values of USDM ITRs after JDM ITRs become legal

Post by zaccaria.joseph87 » Sun Oct 15, 2017 7:34 pm

I'm in the market for an ITR {USDM or JDM}, all I've been thinking is the how market on these USDM models will change after the JDM models start to open. Where do people gauge the values will go?? I'm interest to hear from people that monitor the market on these often

Any response will be pure speculation. One could argue the USDM production numbers being lower, individually numbered, and easier to acquire, could lead to higher values.

Definitely pure speculation, My belief is that the USDM will always have higher value because of being LHD; a RHD car in itself will deter many as it is different in of it self. At the same time a JDM model will have everything that JDM pays a lot for here

Speculation, assuming the overall financial market is good, ha.

You can look it some sought after older Hondas with increasing values (NA1 NSX RHD for example). I would expect the JDM values to increase at that point too.

Mix in with the dwindling number of clean USDM ITRs out there, the values won't drop regardless of a few JDM ones coming over.

I would say that USDM ITR prices will not be affected at all. This has been the case in Canada.
LHD will always be more desirable in a LHD country.
Example: https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/rch/cto ... 77124.html

I expect JDM ITR's to go up in price gradually as they get closer to being 25 years old and legal for import to USA.

I have witnessed a price increase for Japan RHD MK4 Supras as they get closer to 25 years old. LHD MK4 Supras are expensive and there is demand for affordable RHD models. The 1993's will be legal in 2018 and prices on 1993 and 1994 twin turbo cars have been climbing in Japan faster than later models.

Semi related, what do people think the value of a JDM version will be in the US when they are properly legal? I imagine it will always be less than a USDM as already said. I'm curious what a large market like the US will do to world prices (if anything) after the 25 years.

Not a perfect comparison but R32 Nissan Skyline GTR have been legal for a while and I have seen prices rise. Plenty of US importers and Canadian sellers trying to cash in and get $17 to $25k USD for clean examples.

There are quite a few available and the GTR hype has died down. I am sure there will be less JDM ITR available so it will be interesting to see if the US market has an impact on prices. 98 + JDM have desirable upgrades so it may be a few years before we see the full impact.

I agree with above. The RHD issue isn't appealing to many people.

A four-door is appealing, but only because the US never got it.

I was just in a position to buy either a 2k jdm itr or a 98 usdm itr. Both were reasonably priced, but trying to register the jdm itr is (near) impossible in cali. But there values were pretty close.

Once you can bring em in after 25 years, I think USDM's will not be affected. Clean USDM examples are going to be rare, regardless of alternative JDM itr's on the market, so the prices are going to stay high. But what you will see is the JDM prices going towards the price of middle priced ITR's, the 12-18k range. Only yellow itr rx with full yellow interior will get into the 20's. Thats my guess.
