DC2/DB8 QUESTIONS Type R project almost done

Post by Misterjew » Thu Nov 02, 2017 7:45 am

Good morning everyone!

I had a few questions I always Google and research before asking but I could not find anything.

I'm rebuilding my 98 Type R and I need an exhaust I want OEM for now.

Are the Dc2/Db8 OEM mufflers the same? I know the actual piping most likely is different length wise...

Also I have installed an oem driver side axle seal several times and it keeps leaking which is really holding me up. My halfshaft is missing the brass washer at the end or dustboot as they call it. Could this be the issue why it is leaking or is it maybe the shaft itself being worn?

Thanks

I think the tailpipe is longer on db's vs dc's.

IIRC the piping on the tip is longer on the db8. Would need to extend that portion to look right. Unless you like the “tuck” look lol.

I'm just having a problem finding a dc2 oem muffler. I find the db8 ones all the time.

Any idea on the axle seal issue?

Hmotors probably has a bunch of itr exhausts. I would try them first.

Yea I'll give them a call. Shipping won't be cheap. I'm more concerned about the axle seal issue. I'm really hoping that the half shaft is the issue and not the diff bearing in the transmission.

A new intermediate shaft might be worth a shot if you're positive your using the right axle seal. Hmo has shafts for like $50. I had a similar issue but was due to getting the wrong axle seal sent to me, probably for a 36mm axle. The ID was too large and leaked trans fluid. Swapped out for the right one and not a drop after that. Good luck tracking it down
