Another possibility is importing a car already in Canada. For example here is a link to 1999 CTR that the dealer has been sitting on for awhile https://maruyichi.com/inventory/1999-ho ... r=1999&p=1. There are other Canadian Importers that could bring a car into Canada and hold onto it until the 25 years comes up.

Just a thought.

That's a great idea to look at Canada.

Btw, I'm looking for a minty, black example. :trophy:

Hello,

Velocity Cars out of Vancouver, British Columbia seems decent enough. As for a Black Ek9 1 saw one online five or so years ago. I think it was going for 12 to 15k Canadian. That of course is no longer the case.

the rumor on the street is that the EK9 is becoming the most sought after classic honda in japan and its getting difficult to source them. This is most likely due to both limited numbers and the fact that the US is on the cusp of the 25 year rule.

I would say late 00's early 10's and prices for a CTR in japan were 5-6k. My CTR was 8k in the US from the importer. Black 2k CTR at auction that other day sold for 13k. thats a pretty hefty price hike and thats mostly due to 25 year (but also nostalgia and there is ALOT of money out right now.)

whatever you do, make sure you get really good paperwork. As someone that dealt with registering (and trying to register) multiple RHD cars in CA and AZ, make sure you have the paperwork.

@noahf: Thanks for sharing those insights. Do you have a link to that black CTR that sold recently at auction?

Hello,

For reference this morning I went onto the JDM auction website that I usually check. As per the third last row, which is in x 1000 Yen, these are the current prices the cars are selling for at the auction. As such, 1671000 Yen is the price the 2000 Honda Civic Type R X (luxury) version sold for, which is around $15,500 American. Based on my very limited experience, once you ship, and account for all of the other transportation costs and hidden fees the price you have paid once it reaches you can almost be double the initial purchase price (or at least increase it by 20 to 30 percent). And of course this doesn't account for the cost of anything you have to fix/repair that wasn't mentioned in the auction description. From what I have gleaned from the trends I have noticed the price increases seem to be based on: 1) age of the car, with the newer the better; 2) kilometers; 3) how many years until it can be imported; 4) if it is a specialty model/colour and 5)which auction house sold the vehicle. Based on this information, I fully agree with noahf that the prices on these cars are changing rapidly.

Just wanted to mention another Canadian importer. B pro out of Alberta Canada. https://b-pro.ca/

I had a clean 94 Supra TT auto from them. I put it back to stock 136km. I wish I kept it but the new owner is enjoying it.

Best bet now is going to be buying one in Japan and storing it. There is no doubt JDM ITR and CTR prices are rising quickly. Just look at Nissan Skyline prices (R32/R33/R34).

Brian imported my car. He made it a pretty straight forward process.

i do not have a link for the black CTR, it wasnt an online auction. But with white CTR's being the most common, and black/yellow/vsm being much rarer, I would think that if whites are going for 15.5k usd then you are going to see the 20-25k non white ctr price in japan. All with the endgame of getting imported to the US.
