97 USDM Front Bumper Recommendations
Re: 97 USDM Front Bumper Recommendations
That is awesome. Also, I'm not an expert with the different plastics but what is the OEM chin spoiler made of? What are the Comptech/Wings West replicas made of?

Re: 97 USDM Front Bumper Recommendations
My guess is the oem ones are polypropylene. Look for a PP marking inside. The tough part may be there is a grade associated with the material which i don't know nothing about, but I would bet it is probably just below whatever they use for medical as oem car stuff is usually very good..

Comptech and wings west , my guess may be PP (if lucky), fiberglass or polyurethane.
The garbage aftermarket stuff is ABS. If you are doing a mold, I hope the molder or designer considers the shrinkage ratio after it cools because that is a real thing. There may be warpage after it cools so you may need a fixture to hold it to shape while it cools.

It's been great seeing this take off.
Here's what I got back from Marcus at Heeltoe:

I could certainly make Comptech lips, but I need a sample. Do you know anyone in the PWN that has one?

I know of one and support this idea. I'll ask him. Marcus is a friend too.
Also, I'm seriously thrilled to see 97 #57 back on here. That's still my favorite 97 that I've ever driven:

I sold my Comptech lip after I sold #00171 but I can ask the owner to chime in as they are also in the community.

You are awesome! Let me ping the owner I sold my space 97 lip too as they are also in the Northeast. I will do whatever I can support your project. I know this project could bring benefit to potentially hundreds in our community.Dc2-ProductionS wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 3:31 pm So speaking to this, I have been working on a fix for this...
My friend has a higher mileage '97, but it is all original minus pass fender. I have convinced him to let me remove the lip, and take it to get a replica mold made to get them reproduced. It's going to cost me thousands of dollars to get the mold made, I understand. However, if I don't do it, I dont know who will.
I need a true OEM match for my '97, and if the last new in box one sold for $3,000 in minutes I think those who need it would pay $500-$1,000 for a exact match replica that is perfect fitment and has OEM mounting tabs.
I'm very close to getting this process started and will keep you guys in the loop as it progresses.

Re: 97 USDM Front Bumper Recommendations
I'm working on that now actually. We might need to gather some realistic data on how many people will be interested in a new comptech lip to better understand how feasible this is.coolhandluke wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 10:41 amI sold my Comptech lip after I sold #00171 but I can ask the owner to chime in as they are also in the community.
Re: 97 USDM Front Bumper Recommendations
I know this isn't a great way to generate realistic data, but, I'm in.
For real, though, I'm playing catch up on all things ITR, but I'd love to get 57 looking less snaggletooth.
