So I was able to secure some seals. But the tailgate and some door seals are going to be tricky. I talked to the painter and they will leave the rear/quarter panel panel glass in and tape off the seals for now. I was able to get the roof and front windshield moldings/trim.

I also went ahead and grabbed emblems/stickers while I was at it.

I've started assembling the bottom end. I plan to get the CP rods/pistons installed this weekend.

I'm using ACL bearings this time around. Last time I went oem and spec'd it out to 16 thousands. Everything spec'd out fine this time around as well but obviously every journal is ~1-4 thou of each other. I used dial bore/micrometers and did a final check with plasti gauge.

Quarter glass should come out without damage to the seals. You do really want these removed for paint. Quarter glass moldings are permanently on the glass. Quality glass installers should be able to handle without issue.

I broke one of mine removing myself, but was still able to order new quarter glass so went new. I might still have the unbroken one (but molding is pretty dry) if someone needs.

The rear is probably the trickiest, I think it can be removed (with wire saw per helms) without damage to the seal again if installer is skilled and careful. That’s probably better than a replacement molding anyway.

There’s a second upper seal on the hatch that’s likely going to be dried outside will probably get damaged removing the glass. I couldn’t figure out what it’s actual purpose was given its location, at best it might keep some junk from collecting in the drain channel. I couldn’t procure a new one and the existing one I pulled from the LS was too badly aged to consider using, so I skipped it. I doubt it will be an issue.

I will let my painter know about the rear quarter windows.

I'm still hesitant about asking them to remove the rear glass. In case there is a problem I don't want to be stuck in a situation.

When I had my glass removed, the rear was the only one that didn't break. I broke the rear quarters taking those out myself though.

Not sure if it's already been stated, but the rear has a removable seal that can be replaced. I'm pretty sure it's glued on and will be a pain, but If they damage that removing the glass, you can replace the seal without buying new glass. I purchased a new rear seal but haven't attempted removing the old one yet. I'll do that when the hatch is painted and ready to go back together.

So 6 months have passed.

And not much to show for it. I have gotten many small brackets and all fasteners plated.

Currently the suspension/brakes/subframe are getting powder coated.

After really working up close to the car I can really see the flaws in the respray. It will do for now but I really would like to acid dip the car and start over. Maybe in another 20 years.

I feel you, I don't even think I've seen my car in 6mo. I will say, expect Expo announcements soon, so if that motivates you...but if not, fly out and hang. It's a hobby car, so the work should be fun.

Yeah I should do that whether its done or not. I'm mentally in a lot better place than I was in the past 3-4 years.

It would be great to see everyone again and catch up!
