Wheel Restoration
Wheel Restoration
Has anyone used a professional wheel restoration/refinishing company for the OEM wheels? I always assumed I would just have my OEM wheels powder coated for durability but after having the tires removed and cleaning them really well, I started paying closer attention. I believe the original finish is paint and only on the wheel face. The Kaiser Grey seems to fade after the outside bead and also on the inside of the wheel barrel. You can really see the machined finish in the bare areas and powder coating would certainly cover the entire wheel. The other reason I believe they are painted is how thin the coating is. Unfortunately after years of use, they have chips from wear and tear and the layer is minimal unlike powder coat which tends to be thicker. Can anyone confirm? Thanks in advance for any recommendation and comments.

Re: Wheel Restoration
It's like not much help but I have used two companies in Vancouver BC Canada. Greens and Panthers. Both paint, both turned out great. Just make sure they get the color correct as I have seem CW come out with the wrong shade over the years. Even Greens did a friends set and it was too bright white. They redid them for him.
I have found professional paint to be quite durable. The OEM wheels were painted and do hold up. I have read too many horror stories with powder so I always stick with paint.
For non wheel parts such as the header heat shield I had Cerakoke done.

Re: Wheel Restoration
Thanks for confirming that they're painted. I'm a long way from B.C. so I'll have to look locally. Definitely want to get them as close to original as possible. I had some OG Regamasters powder coated years ago and was not pleased. They came out blotchy. I always thought PC was supposed to be smooth but these almost had an orange peel to them. Sold them and took it as a loss
