Dumb, Stubborn, and bound to end up penniless…….
Re: Dumb, Stubborn, and bound to end up penniless…….
Checked into my personal driver’s lounge for the next couple days.
Seriously though if your going to be at Willow Springs check out AirBNB. Only place I could get a secured parking for the ITR. Seriously palatial highly recommend.

Secured parking in that area is a MUST.
When I used to go to WS back in 2012-ish with the Loi Spec guys we'd stay at "Carl's/Joshua Motel" if I remember... 2 star hotel with 4-5 guys to a room! There would be like, 5-10 ITRs in the parking lot. Everyone took spare ECUs and/or took them into their room as those would be targeted first as they were quick smash/grab. We also took watch duties and most nights more than once had to raise the alarm and all run out with baseball bats to spook the bogies off.
If you ever get out to Chuckwalla, the little cabins onsite aren't bad!

The parking doesn’t look secure to me.

There are coded security gates and full security system. The property is also obscured from the road so meet my needs.Stin1 wrote:The parking doesn’t look secure to me.

So I’m not a natural or even skilled driver, who surprised . It was still an absolute blast and has shown me what an ITR was really made for. It has such grace at the limit it just lets you know next time you can feel safe to take it a bit faster. The instructors at Fastlane worked tirelessly with me all day to make me at least somewhat more worthy of the car. Even better they seemed moderately impressed with the car.
Bonus one of the instructors was able to take my wife out for a couple laps before n it so she has a new appreciation for what it’s capable of as well and some interest in driving it herself, though not on the track, or at least that’s her story for now.
Hopefully I’ll have some pictures to
share soon.
Now it’s time to relax and prepare for Big Willow tomorrow.
The car looks great, fluids are all excellent. Consumed about 1/2 quart of oil and chugged a tank of gas, but plenty of tire yet and brakes for days.

Woohoo! Not bad on the consumables. Nothing like learning a car, especially this one! The porta potty really sets off that last pic!aklackner wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 7:40 pm So I’m not a natural or even skilled driver, who surprised . Soo did you do streets of Willow today? That is a super fun track. Big Willow is something else, I never did feel like I got turn 8 and 9 down on my skittish little CRX.

And yes this morning was the lower half of streets and time on the skidpad. In the afternoon they opened up the full loop. It was super special since Dawn and Will came out, had lunch and hung out. I wasn’t sure how that was going to go since Dawn isn’t that into cars or loud engines but she knows how hard I’ve worked on this project and to make this happen.
I’ve been watching the video below on loop prepping for tomorrow and with a whole new respect for how easy they make it look. 8-9 sounds like it will be a handful. I still have so much to figure out but happy to be out there and thrilled with 01-0386!!!

I know you'll do fine - I seem to recall that once I came back in a real race car with good rubber - thinking those turns were a non-issue, and nothing to be stressed over! That allowed me to be confident and comfortable, at least to try and get some lines learned.aklackner wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 10:14 pm I’ve been watching the video below on loop prepping for tomorrow and with a whole new respect for how easy they make it look. 8-9 sounds like it will be a handful. Re: Dumb, Stubborn, and bound to end up penniless…….
I did a 2 day racing school with Fastlane at Willow a few years ago. We did day 1 on Streets, and day 2 on Big Willow. The big track was so much more fun imo, higher speeds and longer laps etc. I plan to go back sometime.

Big Willow was a blast today. Great track to practice smoothing things out.
Lots of wind limited sessions in the early afternoon and unfortunately my car wasn’t running quite right so I bowed out of the last two sessions of the day but still got a lot of turns overall.
Not quite sure what’s up with the car. It seems to complain under mid throttle with a sort of stutter. No check engine light, and no heat issues both oil and ect were great as was oil pressure. Generally idles fine and right at set 850 as usual (light, fans, and all off).
With all the abuse and dust storm today it’s gonna need a lotta love!
