Better hold on just the start of the updates planned this week Had to start the spare parts give away to make some room to get to work.noahf wrote:damn what a crazy week for updates! i hope the engine material is just normal break in stuff. how many oil changes have you done? lets hope its just break in stuff. and the pci upgrades, whats different vs stock pci spherical bushings?
On the oil filter, not a lot I can do but hope for the best and watch closely. If something is up with my motor it’s just gonna be another opportunity to do something billet, I mean stupid, can I mean both
To actually answer your questions:
If my notes are right block has seen somewhere around 5000mi (but that seems high based on amount of time it was actually in use in the LS) since it came out of Honda’s box. So naturally there are a handful of oil changes there but I pulled the head off to swap from Mugen to OEM HG and cleaned accumulated carbon off the pistons, valves, combustion chamber, and installed toda upgraded oil pump gear in new oil pump, before it went into the ITR and the JRSC kit went on. Since that it’s had at least 3 oil changes over pretty minimal mileage maybe a total of ~600mi primarily trips to Homecoming (<300mi) and Willow Springs (<300mi w/ <2hrs on track). Oil was changed before and after Willow Springs and both filters show similar particulate. This doesn’t exactly make me feel great about the idea this is still break in or that what remains would be visible. For now I’ll commit to monitor closely and look for possible sources as I work with it. If something major comes of it there are options it may not be Honda BNIB or even CARB compliant. Fortunately I’m not dependent on the car and if a choice is forced streets are looking more and more like the optional side of my equation.
The Kingpin upgrade includes NMB aerospace bearings which should at least wear better than the originals from PCI. Ryan turned me on this upgrade and the Kingpin compliance bearings. I just put my PCI arms in before getting the upgrade and was resisting the idea of having the suspension apart while I sent parts off (one of the last things I mailed took me over a year to actually ship). When I saw Kingpin could just send upgraded blocks it was a no brainer for me. To my feel the bearing from Kingpin have a lighter and smoother feel (truly lubricated) than, where the bearings that came on my PCI arms took some force to articulate from a stopped position(sort of as if they were sticking in the Teflon lining, not that this would have any observable impact within experienced forces).
