CTR 666

Post by MINTY FRESH » Fri Dec 01, 2017 10:29 am

Hello Folks,

Well CTR 666 (actually the chassis number is 1203666, but 666 sounds so much better) has been put away for the winter, and for the most part it has been a good experience. Learning to drive a RHD Japanese race car has had its highs and lows. The lows of course being shelling out $$$ to have the transmission completely rebuilt, including the clutch. The good (perhaps not) being stalked every time I drive the car. Another good note is that when I was putting the car on axel stands the fluorescent light in the garage pointed out that there had been sponsor stickers on the fiberglass hood. Strangely, the ones I could read were in English. Go figure.

Hello,

I will try to take a clear picture of the hood but it might be hard to see.

Hello,

Certainly. The car is stored at my inlaws. I hope to go over there this weekend.

Hello Folks,

As requested, I did my best this weekend to rush over to my in-laws and take a number of crummy pictures. They are shown in the link below. In respect to the picture of the hood, after 10 minutes of playing with various angles and changing the light source between natural and fluorescent light the remnants of the sponsor's advertisements appear to read:

TRY RECYCLE sale and maintenance of a car
DIREZZA

The history of my purchase of this car started last year. I had wanted a fourth generation Honda growing up, but my family couldn't afford it. So many years later while looking to buy something to keep the ITR 385 company, I thought about a CRX or a DX hatchback . . . but then I thought to myself - what the hell, why not a CTR?
When I started researching them I knew of course that the EK9s were very limited in NA because they were only originally sold in Japan, however I didn't know that they were also sold in RACE BASE trim. As soon as I became aware of this I became obsessed with trying to find one. However, due to their rarity, this was very, very difficult, even in Japan. Nevertheless, only after 6 months of stalking the internet I found one. There were many trails and tribulations bringing it to Alberta. Then there were many trails and tribulations dealing with an unhappy transmission and various mechanics that didn't share my own view of was 'good enough'. Even though there is much work to be done, including a thorough cleaning, at least it is in a locked garage.
Again I realize the pictures are of a low (crap) quality, but it gives you an idea of what the car looks like. I took some pictures of the floor mats because I thought it was amusing that a car that was raced had them.

Anyway, enjoy.

Very cool! She looks like a great example. I also recently found out about the "race base" trim model of the CTR. Pretty neat.

Lucky that in Canada you have more lienient laws regarding vehicle imports and registration. It wouldn't be as easy for me to register and drive one. Although the thought has def crossed my mind to grab one and make it a track vehicle. However finding the right example that wont cost me a few toes and a spleen is a tough find.

Any winter plans with it? Keep us updated. 666...

Hello DC-2 Productions,

My plans are to do a complete cleaning of the caR and to make a detailed list of any required repairs/maintenance for the spring. Initially, I though about bringing heR back to stock, but then decided to keep as much of the upgrades/history as I can live with. I had to make changes to the transmission because it was worn, but it also caused the car to vibrate like a b@st@rd.

Oh by the way, I have noticed your handle a number of times on bringatrailer. I am CarsGo.

Hey if trans was worn, hopefully it was from that LSD holding heavy speed through the turns like shes meant to!! Luckily trans is a relatively easy repair and can still maintain OE casing. A good thorough cleaning does wonders and doesn't cost much! Satisfaction is almost always guaranteed.

Swap out any worn bushings. A new set of rubber bushings (all of them), tie rods, ball joints, bump stops, etc will make the caR feel like BRAND NEW. Keep us posted and informed on further updates.

I always scour the boards, auctions, and F/S ads. If it involves an R, I'm not far behind most times. :) I'll keep an eye out for ya!
