1990 civic Si - period correct build, what parts?
1990 civic Si - period correct build, what parts?
Hey Guys!
So I recently picked up a simple track 1990 civic SI. Stock drivetrain and stock exterior. For a while I've been wanting to do an old school period correct track build. I have an idea of what that would be but I thought I would reach out for additionally ideas. Ultimately, what parts did track Civic EF's use in the late 90s early 00s? I've been researching old AX STS builds and that has given me some insights on parts used. I will be using some modern parts of course but main goal is to somewhat mimic an old track build.
Here's my current plan:
1990 civic si d16a6 (no swap)
- koni yellows/ eibach springs
- momo steering wheel, probably use a monte carlo or source an older model with a horn pad
- momo acropolis seat (might be hard to source a clean one)
-14x7 panasports ( have a plug on a set of 8 currently)
-supertrapp muffler ( I saw this used a decent amount when going thru old honda-tech posts)
- dc sports header?
- chipped OBD0 PM6 , Katman still provides this service. Idk how good the tune will be.... given it's not a dyno tune.
Let me know your thoughts. Once I have a plan, I'll start a little build thread.

Oh this will be absolutely rad, I can't wait.
I did a quick search for BTCC references with short results. Racing related, I did find this car:

Exciting! Can't wait to see this unfold Pat!!
believe it or not besides wheel and trie the 90's were a simplistic era. Oval OTS gauges replaced the standard gauges, or the big shift light was hanging out every window, vtec controllers were a thing (still are to me), and engine bays were cluttered w/ oil cooler and catch can lines. ITBs were huge, but seldomly outside of RR did people grasp how to make them effective on the streets.
hope some others can chime in and re-kindle those memories.

Very cool!
I had a student back in November have one of these Civics. He had a B20VTEC. Man! That car impressed me! Had me seriously considering getting one.
That car had good power and, man, that car would late-brake! I'd never been in one.
Such a shame more people don't use them for tracking. I can only imagine how much fun a CRX would be.
As for mods, Greddy headers were big back then. I assume they made them for the D Series engine, too.

This is gorgeous, wow!

All great ideas. I've been hunting ebay for various parts. I am finding some interesting items.
Check this out:

I didn't know Hooker made headers for Hondas. interesting right?
Also, I do enjoy Mugen parts, however, I am looking for more of how an average joe would build a track car in the late 90s to early 00. If you think about it, if you were going to build a period correct track s2000 from 2015, you would actually rarely find any JDM parts on such a build. I am going to share some inspiration photos some time this week.
With that being said, I did find some 14x6 CF48s! Only 3 of them tho. I am going to keep my eye on those.
I am slowly gather parts. Hoping to make this a quick build given the simplicity. One hurdle I am struggling with is finding oem interior pieces. This car I bought was pretty gutted, and I am sourcing things like carpet. kinda tough.
