Expo 2023 - Community Collective
Re: Expo 2023 - Community Collective
A strong Type R showing at a premier track event is probably the way to go. IMO the dedicated Type R community is too small to do this on their own these days, it's just too expensive. There are still pockets of the die hard community out there but not nearly enough interest for a dedicated Type R event. Someone just needs to step up and lead the way for a gathering. It doesn't even have to be a huge event or Type R specific. A solid group of folks would still be a blast. I'd be happy just to bring back turkey meatz but even that became challenging to get people to attend.

We should do a survey.
I am looking into a track rental for this and will get some data points.

Re: Expo 2023 - Community Collective
That's a great idea, I can do another community survey. I did this in ~2019 but I failed this group by summarizing the results.
If you have questions on data points, etc., myself/others can chime in here to keep everything transparent.

Re: Expo 2023 - Community Collective
I can do some 3D printing as a fund starter to get some funds gathered...
Example: Make a 3d "R" logo in White/Black/Yellow and put on keyring. Sell for $12, $10 of every one made goes to Expo fund.
Could do a small selection of Intergra / Civic / S2k / NSX items with this kind of rate to get some funding together... This way people of the community actually GET something in hand while supporting the effort to get everyone on track.
With that said, 50 of these sold and made and shipped only nets us $500 towards funding.... I know every bit helps, but would this be substantial enough to warrant the work/time

That's a very kind offer and a super rad piece.
A few of us just chipped in (yesterday) to cover CPA fees for the club status. I've volunteered to lead a merch fundraiser so I'll DM you to take this offline.

Re: Expo 2023 - Community Collective
So ClubMotorsports would be $44k for the weekend in the summer to rent out. Pricey.
If we wanted 2 hrs a day of run time and then split with the members - that would be 22k for the weekend. We could also get some paddock space.
Net /net you are looking at ~1,250 a person probably for entry fees for the partial day rental of track.
I think a survey of interest assuming 1250 entry fee for driver slot and 500 for non driver car only is likely what we are talking about here unless we go to a smaller tier 2 track in the midwest

Re: Expo 2023 - Community Collective
I will chime in more later this week and include the original survey results from late 2019 / early 2020.
Track pricing is tough nowadays. Historically (and time permitting, I will show the data), we struggled with getting enough paid attendees to cover the deposit in time, let alone the actual track cost plus insurance, staff fees, etc. We kept the fees affordable and cheaper than other events too. Nowadays, if you want a good track with a good date, they want a deposit up front to reserve the date. The old "penciled" dates are less common now.
Anyway, it's a holiday, so I'll resume more later this week.

Re: Expo 2023 - Community Collective
I want to add how awesome this is. Historically, I have fronted any funds required if the club did not have them. This time, I asked the old Expo committee for help in sharing that burden. The response was overwhelmingly positive. I wish I had asked years ago. We have a great group here.coolhandluke wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 7:57 pm That's a very kind offer and a super rad piece.

...
Also, I am reviewing the old survey data again. COVID really foiled our 2020 Expo plans and took the wind from our sails after that survey went out. I am sure I have shared this before, but we had dates ready to go for Atlanta Motorsports Park for 2020 (June) and then delayed them to later in the summer before punting to 2021 (and attempting Autobahn instead).

Happy New Year!
... sounds like a plan, and I LIKE it!
NSXPO in Atlanta was amazing.
(left me conflicted between the beauty of the NA1 and the tech of the newer hybrid).

Happy New Year!
Aside from tracking my own ITR up until late 2020, I havent really followed much "Type R" related things since then. And it didnt seem like anyone tracked the FK8 at the time and the crowd was more into stance and wraps. Plus overheating issues. What about the new FL5 crowd (if there is one)? Not sure if people have gotten priced out or what. Is there still a newer generation "Type R" following out there?
If nothing else Id take the wagon out for some laps but mostly just drink and hang out.
