I got Spoon glass actually installed on two sets of OEM mirrors (not just stick on). Been wanting to do this for several years now, after I realized that Spoon just wants people to tape the glass on top of the old glass.

I have two sets of mirrors, that were repainted last year in satin silver. One set came with the car. The other is a motorized set (folding) that I bought several years ago. So I'm gonna try to install the motorized mirrors, it would be amazing to have this feature on the car. It was only an option in Japan afaik.

Weirdly one set of Spoon glass has the logo on it, the other set does not.

Apparently I have the wiring needed to install the motorized mirrors, and some instructions. Wish me luck. I have the OEM switch which is cool.

The spoon rearview glass install is ok, but it sticks out in the middle, I guess b/c the OEM glass has a concave shape. I think this install could be improved. I might buy a cheap used mirror and see if I can do it better. Still it looks fine when looking straight on as I would be doing in the car. Plus I got a Mugen mirror cover painted in satin silver.

RNJ Customs Repair and Collision in Northridge, CA did the Spoon glass install. They are cool, and willing to do custom work. I recommend them.

The set of spoon mirror lenses I have don't have the logo on it either. I think the newer ones do though. I've had mine since 2015ish though.

Ah that makes sense. I bought my two sets at different times.

Not quite yet. I could do it pretty fast at this point. Just trying to decide if I should just go ahead and finish assembling everything and do the timing. Or should I verify somehow that everything is gonna work properly.

Last few weeks I've been working on putting the rear bumper, tail gate, and trunk interior back together. Also working on front suspension. Gonna paint all pieces gloss black and zinc plate all bolts in gold.

Got the the head bolted on to the block. Used ARP head studs. In process of installing Toda A2 cams, and Toda cam gears. I've always wanted to install cams on an engine, this is super fun and exciting.

Currently trying to determine the TDC position of crankshaft. I read that there should be a white mark on the crank pulley, but I see a white mark on the end of the crankshaft itself. (The pulley has some yellow marks though, I forgot to take a pic of it.)

I also read that the white mark is supposed to line up with the white mark on the lower timing cover (when installed). So for now I've lined up the white marks on crank and cover. Definitely need to verify this before proceeding. Please confirm this or not if anyone knows.

I figured out the timing. For some reason I was referring to the big crank pulley/harmonic balancer thing. Then I realized I should be looking at the crank gear (pulley). So now it's pretty clear. And I also learned about the mark on the oil pump. So TDC is up and to the left a little bit.

I got the cams installed. That was super fun. It did require some careful attention to detail.

Up next is to do the timing belt and valve adjustment.

Man... sorry I didn't reply to you directly, but it looks like you did a great job getting the cams in and heads put together yourself. If you ever get stuck shoot me a txt or a phone call.

The top end looks great! I'm very curious to hear of your "before vs after" when its all put together. My 98 GSR has 230K miles on it and doesn't smoke, but it does feel a bit tired and I've contemplated a refresh.

Thank you! I'm super excited to see how this engine runs. I think doing a refresh would be a good idea for your car. Maybe at least do valve seals and adjust the valves.
