After seeing a facebook post about 16x8 vs 15x8. And some thoughts in my head about 16s vs 15s over the last few months. I am wondering, are there any performance advantages for going 16s on the DC chassis cars? I know steering response might be a benefit, but it seems for cost to performance ratio and tire selection, 15s are just a better buy. (thanks to all the miatas and hondas that use 15s :lol: ) Took a look at equivalent tires for 15x7 and 16x7, the price difference was ridiculous.

I guess probably complicating things, but I saw more preference for 16x8 over 15x8 on that post which seems to go against the whole 15s are better on integras. But outside of maybe the looks, steering feel, having a taller tire, and better wheel clearances for 16s, Im not seeing the advantages? The heavier weight of integras vs eg hatches is negligible going up an inch?

I am discounting that 15x8s for 5 lug are harder to find vs a 4x100 car, and only thinking from a performance perspective for a B series equipped integra.

This part might veer offtopic, but is there any reason why most JDM wheels are more common to find in 15x6.5 and harder to find in 15x7, but easier to find in 16x7? Noticing it for both 5 lug and 4 lug...

What tire size for 16x8's were you looking at? Which post are you referencing with a preference for 16''s? There will be performance variables based of individual tire model sideway characteristics. Most 15x8's are 225/45.

The cost factors are the biggest for most. If and win I buy another set of 16''s, they will purely be for the street due to tire costs.

It was on the Integra Type R Classifieds group on facebook with posters stating their preferences. No actual data on why 16x8 was preferred.

I wasn't sure on tire size, just comparing the typical 200tw tires like BFG Rivals and RE71R. Which for those two tires are available in 215/45/16 and 225/50/16 seem the only usable sizes for a 16x8.

Aren’t both those sizes quite a bit taller than the 15” stuff? It’ll hurt gearing, it’ll hurt suspension travel, it’ll hurt ride height, and at least it’ll weigh more too...

16’s (arguably) look better than 15’s but they’re not better otherwise. This could change if there were ultra-low profile tire options... but that seems unlikely.

15's are going to be lighter than 16s, if it's the same wheel. That's why I like 15's.

Did my first autoX a couple weeks ago on my 15x7 +35 TE37 with 205/50/15 RE71R from Costco. I'm doing my first HPDE next Saturday. So far it is a good setup for ITR and the tires are $200 CAD cheaper per set then 205/45/16.

Yes 15x7 5x114.3 is getting hard to find compared to 4x100.

16s do look better on the ITR but for the track time I will be doing I am far happier paying $680 vs $880 CAD for a set of tires.

If you get 15x8 225/45/15 is the way to go.

With my tires having maybe 1-3 events left in them, and with nationals and the rest of the regions outside of Florida running events, it looks like RE-71Rs might be out of stock, so I am preparing trying another 200 tw tire out.

I have found the RE71R matching up just about right with my driving style and how my integra feels. How would the rivals or RS4 compare? The 205/50 Rival S 1.5 might feel squishy on a 15x7 and in a FWD application?

I assume the RS4 225/45 might be too squishy on the 15x7?

I didn't like the dunlop ZII SS when I had them, I am not sure if I would like the new replacement. If the kumho v720 didn't delaminate, I wouldnt have minded them at all, and actually have a set on my beater civic because I was left a pair when tire rack wanted the pair to investigate the issue.
