Hells yeahs! Looking fantastic man.

Looks great! Working on stripping my project right now and totally feel you on the amount of work. It’s taken me ~3 hrs to strip the rear right wheel well. What did you use for coating? Did you re-spray the entire undercarriage, if so how did you manage without a rotisserie? I’m trying to sort that out.

Thanks! In total, we worked on prepping the undercarriage in total for a combined 20+ man hours. See link and picture below for what coating I used. We have only done the wheel wells as of yet, but the belly pan is next up. I've heard some terrible POR15 stories, and dont want to roll it all on because I'll never get everything covered. Rustoleum makes an automotive undercoating primer that comes in a Gray tone. (Looks similar to the OEM color-ish) I'm going to give it a shot and see how it goes. Lot's of reviews saying it holds up fantastic, and its relatively inexpensive at around $4 a can. Hoping to get that done this week so potential update later this week.

What paint did you use? The under fender work looks glorious. I'm very impressed, quality prep and paint work.

Thanks for the compliment. We said through it all, that this is the work everyone hates and few will do, but in the end it's 1,000% worth it.


The coating I used was Transtar rubberized undercoating. Link to Amazon below. I got 3 cans and have maybe 1/4 of a can left for touch ups if needed, but I dont think I will. This stuff goes on easily and levels itself out as it shown in the pics above. Texture and spray is very controllable. I got the recommendation to use this from another ITR member who is also going through a rebuild. (Thanks again John!!)

Well......

Excitement for this build has us above cloud 9 at this point. It's unreal to believe that we spent ANOTHER 6 HOURS (2 guys x 3hrs each) last night cleaning and prepping the belly pan of this caR before spraying....






I have to give credit to my P.I.C. on this build for staying at it to get the belly of this car done last night. Having to be up at 7am, I had to call it quits at about 2am. He stayed at it and got the whole underside sprayed. I woke up this morning to the glorious sight of fresh coat under the entire caR.

Pictures. Don't. Do. It. Justice.... It came out amazing IMO. We still have another touch up coat to lay down in some light spots, but SO FAR SO GOOD!!! Check out the pics below and let me know what you think!!!














I'm going to get all my nuts and bolts together to get them sent out to be zinc'd sometime next week. Have been having some trouble removing some of the bushings on the lower arms, so haven't gone to powder coat yet. Now that the bottom is nearing completion, I can start getting into the wiring and interior bits and pieces inside.

Off subject, what is the plastic black tube laying on the ground under your car? I found one in my car when i got it and am not sure what it goes to.... Thanks

I believe that is a drain hose from either the wheel well or the firewall. I think.... I try to take a picture of where I pulled it from for ya.

So last night we got coats #2 and #3 of primer layer down. Then coated it 3x with a matte clear coat sealant to cure and prevent rust in the future. Last night wasn't too cold outside here in NY so I was able to get the garage to about 68 degrees with the propane heater. That helped make quick work of drying and wait time between coats. Both primer and clear coat recommended 15-20 minutes between coats at 65-70 degrees temperature. We waited about 30 mins or more between each coat. Fine by me, because we needed the get some fresh air after each session.

It was a few pages ago when I took the before shots of the belly, so I tried to recapture the refinished pics in the same position. When working on a project this much and this many hours, you sometimes forget just exactly what it looked like when we started....
