Well last night was one we have been waiting for for quite some time now. I got all of the bolts back from zinc coating and started the task of making it a rolling shell again!! Our first task was to sort every single nut and bolt and get all of the new parts I have had waiting all together and opened to start making their way onto the caR!!
It took almost 2 hours to get all the bolts sorted and figured out. I've been trying to source an OEM brand new or nearly new suspension, but have yet to find one. So I took the originals and put in a bunch of elbow grease and cleaned them all up and surprisingly they came out pretty darn clean. I have them bolted in for now just so I can get heR back to being a roller so she can get to the body shop once we are back on the ground. All of the parts that are being powder coated will be back for next Wednesday session, so for now we were focused on getting the back half bolted in.
New rear trailing arms, new lower arms, new rear compensator arms, new upper arms, new spindles, and all fresh and clean bolts.
The picture's unfortunately don't do it justice for how happy we are with how everything is turning out. Subframe and other powder coating parts will be done by next week so we can then get the front buttoned up, and boy are we excited. I stopped by my body shop and made a date to drop the caR off the get all the dents, dings, and seams all addressed. (June 4th) I plan on having the caR primered and just about ready for paint and we will bring heR home to complete assembly. All the final lines and details will be completed minus the interior and she will be sent back for paint and final touch ups. While she is gone for a few weeks I can use the space in the garage to layout the motor and trans and all wiring and pick my brain to pieces with all that!!
It has begun! The re assembly has us pumped to keep the line moving! Speaking of lines, I need to figure out a solution for the ABS lines. The lines themselves all seem ok, but the connection points are pitted and rusty and we cant have that!! More thinking on a solution for that as time ticks by.

I saw your IG story this morning and I’m very impressed on how everything is coming out! The bolts came out great and those Brand New trailing arms are super cool! Glad everything is coming out as planned and you’re able to enjoy it through this process! Look forward to seeing this in person! Keep it up!

The bmxmuseum has several tips for removing rust. Unfortunately they can't remove the pitting but you would be amazed at some of the results. A lot of the products are corrosive. If you try any of the solutions watch it closely and don't exceed the recommended time. From the looks of the build you will probably be buying new if available. Great work. The shot with the new zinc bolts is the bees knees.

The hardware came out great! I got a quote to have a few brackets done but all the local shops to me have a minimum of about $175 to refinish in zinc, and i dont have that many parts to justify it.

Yea I was happy to hear it was <$100. Gather up some parts, the shine is worth it!!

So not an update on the the '97, but it was time to pay it forward. My buddy John who has been helping me crush through this build was in need of some work on his baby also. The undercoating that we used on the underside of the ITR got put down in his engine bay of his drag car. Fully built B-series, 3 piece front end, looking to go <8.99 this year... Thing is a total animal.
I can't recommend this undercoating enough. Lays down very very easy and covers very well. Just put some gloves on because this sh!t sure does stick to your hands!

The zinc bolts look great. What does zinc coating do, besides look nice? Does it protect from rust?

yes it protects from rusting...not to mention looks SWEET!! all the nuts/washers/bolts will rust without a protective coating..
