1999 Honda Integra Type R Build
1999 Honda Integra Type R Build
Hi All. New to the forums but definitely not new to Hondas. My first car was a 2000 Integra GSR that i owned from 07-14. It was my autocross car and daily driver with mostly suspension mods done to it.
In 2014 I sold it and picked up a new 2014 Subaru Wrx Sti. Slowly modded it over the years until it was at about 300whp/350ft.lbs on 91 octane and water/meth. I bought the car to have something faster to race and daily drive but i quickly realized the car’s limitations. While it was fun to daily and boost around from time to time, I became more hesitant to race it due to all the local subies that were blowing EJ25s. Forum effect got to me, I stopped racing it in 2016, and I began to enjoy the car less and less. Wanting to get back into racing something more reliable and cheaper, I decided to sell the STI. This how it sat before the part out.
Since my GSR was extremely reliable and stood up to 7 years of abuse I decided to get another integra. This time around I wanted a Type R but with the current price of the USDM/CDMs I decided to look in Japan. After about 2 weeks working with my Importer, he found a 99 ITR for sale by a private seller. After a few emails back and forth I decided to pull the trigger and pick it up. It should hit the Canadian’s shores in about 5-6 weeks. Here are some photos from the seller. I’ll get more detailed photos once the car reaches the Japanese port to get a better idea of the condition.
The car is a 1999 ITR with 102,000kms (about 63k miles). The car is fairly stock except for the Mugen pedals and an upgraded Cusco LSD. The previous owner used it for Gymkhana (autocross) so i’m expecting it to have some dings and scratches. It sounds like it’s in great mechanical condition however. I’ll be taking the car to a shop close to the port in Vancouver to have it checked out and fluids changed prior to driving it back.
The plan is to use it as an autocross/hpde car and daily it from time to time. Once it lands and I get it back home I’ll be going over it with a fine tooth comb and replace anything that looks tired/worn.
That’s it for now. I’ll post some updates as I get them.

Thanks guys. I'm excited to be getting back into a Honda again. I'll miss the power/torque of the STI but nothing compares to the drive-ability and fun factor of a light weight 90s Honda.
I spent the past week reading up on the Cusco LSDs to get as much information on them as possible. Unfortunately I have no idea whether it's a Type RS or Type MZ or whether it is a 1 way or 1.5 way. I'll most likely have to pull the tranny off to inspect it. Since the sale ad said it was used for gymkhana I'm really hoping it's a 1 way Type RS, which would make it more tolerable on the streets.
It sounds like the car is currently sitting at the Japanese port awaiting the next shipment. I believe I should be getting some additional photos soon which will give me a better idea of the condition that it's in.

Haha they did a pretty good job this year. Unfortunately they just couldn't keep up with Vegas. Yeah the 15 year import rule is nice. The price of these cars is just going to skyrocket once they become available in the states. The price for R32s is insane now compared to what my friend paid for his a while back.white rocket wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 4:22 pm Nice back story write-up. Congrats on the purchase! Welcome to the community! Good stuff! I am jealous, that will be a solid car. I look forward to more updates.
If you are up for meeting the community face to face, check out Type R Expo West this September. I can offer assistance as I am local to the event this year.

Thanks for the welcome. I would love to make it out to either the East or West Expos one day. I wish I wasn't in central Canada where either trip would be around 30 hours of driving. I would be fun to rip around a proper track for once.coolhandluke wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 9:23 am Welcome to the community! Good stuff! I am jealous, that will be a solid car. Back when I had my GSR I was hoping to make it out to the tail of the dragon events put on by the Team-Integra guys but I ended up selling the car before I had a chance. Hopefully I'll be able to make something work.

Re: Back to my Roots: 1999 Honda Integra Type R
30hrs is a haul, but we have community members who do it every year. As I'v gotten older, I am team fly and drive. I pick a spot to fly to and join the caravan up for caravan fun. Others fly in to hang and rent a car, etc. I would highly recommend coming out to a West, since it will be another special year where we join forces with NSXPO for a larger event. There will also be many CA cars that will be impressive builds.
Small world, I was part of the 5 of did the original TI Dragon Run. I attended every year until I moved.

This is exciting, hope the R turns out to be great when it arrives.
So they put the battery on the left side of the engine bay on rhd caRs? I never knew that.

Seems like the whole firewall is flipped. Just look at the length of that throttle cable.Dave7CDMTYPER wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 12:34 pm This is exciting, hope the R turns out to be great when it arrives.
