Re: Tire Information Thread

Got an email from DDT, its about 4-6 weeks before they'll be available in 205/50/15. Close to cords on my current set so I'm hoping to finish them off soon if my car decides to cooperate and run right

For daily driving, I just got a set of Michelin premier a/s in 195/55/15. For my gsr with 5 lug. On TR they have a $70 rebate special, which makes them under $100 which is great for Michelin imo.

They feel great so far and are supposed to last many miles too.

It’s sorta apples to oranges but I’ve been running the 615K+ on my car for the last couple months. Have put on almost 3,000 miles, a Trackday, and autox. They’re a solid option for folks not looking for the absolute fastest street tire and are willing to trade a few tenths of a second for better wear and better heat tolerance.

Your feedback intrigues me. Previously, the 615k's were dated in technology.

Yeah, they freshened them from the 615k to the 615k+ (wasn’t there even a “615” originally?)... the newer k+’s are maybe 1-1.5 years old? IIRC, one version of them was prone to greasing up easily. My limited use of them is that they tend not to do that badly for my application. Peak G numbers for autox were in the ~1.2 range mostly for transitions with a single hit to ~1.3 (combination braking+sweeper entry). I didn’t bother to run data for the trip to AMP (A buddy’s wedding). :)

FWIW, they hadn’t been super highly adopted by autocrossers because they’re slower than the 71R/Rival-S. Good news is that now they’re the spec tire for SSC so there should be a little more data in the future.

Oh yeah, just picked up a set of the 195/60 14 Falkens for my old, EF sedan race car. We’re going to give them a try at GL South just for fun and giggles. Should be Jabaay, Mike Taylor, and Kutil swapping track time. Maybe see if Tomo can jump in and put us all to shame too?

IIRC, that was the prior gen compound? The “+” appears to have fixed the issues with them overheating easily like the Z2SS... or at least made them better enough that it’s not serious issue.

Heck yes!

And yes, there were an original 615 (and 215.) Falken used to be the default tire for our crew due to price and performance.
