Re: Restoring #97-00012
Hopefully some aircraft stripper or something can take care of the black paint. Mimicking the orange paint may be a task. I have some orange left on mine. I don't think it's enough to reproduce a actual color code. If you want I can send you the pics of mine. Dc231 sent me a pic of icb 's advertisement for their oem block. That picture has a really heavy red color compared to the orange on my dot block . I have never sprayed water on the orange but moisture did remove some on the one wash I gave it. Even with it covered up. I can't describe how smooth and nice my dot motor is compared to nearly every itr motor or car I have driven.Dc2-ProductionS wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 7:49 am So not ready just yet to come home, but boy is she looking good!!! Not a dent, ding, or bubbled seam on the caR! Lots of time getting heR perfect while using the least amount of material possible. I'll have some cleaning to do on heR underside Im sure from being in the body shop for almost 2 months, but super excited to see that NH0 shine in the coming days.
On to the pictures!!
The bare rolling shell will come home with no doors, hood, glass, fenders, bumpers, etc. This will allow me plenty of room to get everything put back together. Once everything is complete, I will bring the caR back to the body shop to re-trim and insert all the glass, hang the doors, and put all bumpers and trim on to make it complete.
In the mean time I have come across a few finds that I couldn't pass up..... Best one being this puppy
USDM C5 complete swap minus headers and axles. Annnnnnd shes out of a '97!! 67k miles on engine, 15k miles on replacement RDOT OEM trans. This is scheduled to arrive on Friday, so I will have some updates on it after the weekend when I can tear it down for inspection. I know it needs some serious cleaning and attention bc the previous owner sprayed the block and head black for some STUPID reason.....

That bare shell is going to look so sexy when it's done. Bare or complete. She is to drool for in the current pictures. In the 90s my dad had cans of paint labeled dot orange. I don't know what they were for or how he got them .

DC2productions, not sure if you've discussed this. But since your caR is down to the shell, have you seen any evidence of the fabled seam welding?

I haven't even thought about that but I will look into it now that you mention it!Dave7CDMTYPER wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 10:46 pm DC2productions, not sure if you've discussed this. But since your caR is down to the shell, have you seen any evidence of the fabled seam welding?

Re: Restoring #97-00012
Pictures arent doing it any justice for how good it all looks. Im beyond happy with it and everything looks amazing. Lots of cleaning to do on some of the shiney bits to make em perfect again but its all good. Nothing was tourqed to spec and marked yet, so we were planning on pulling everything back down and out anyway. I will get some better pictures of the milky paint in the next few days. I have a busy few days and then the wife goes away for a few days..... Which means caR time for the boys
Stay tuned.

Wow man this came out great! I know it’s hard to really capture the quality of the paint, but it looks amazing. Now the fun starts, luckily you have a garage so weather isn’t an inconvenience . In for seeing some reassembly progress.
