Replacing seat foam

Post by s98d7fs » Wed Sep 12, 2018 3:19 pm

Hey folks,

I'm looking to replace the driver's side seat's foam in the bottom part of the seat. I did a quick check on a few parts sites and it looks like the OEM ITR seat bottom foam, 81532-ST7-J21, is discontinued, however the non-ITR models part, 81532-ST7-A01, is still available. If memory serves, I think that these should be interchangeable, since both parts are 81532-ST7, and the last three digits are the production run (or something like that).

Can anyone confirm if those parts are indeed the same?

(Incidentally, if you've done the replacement and have any handy lessons learned, I'd totally appreciate it. I checked a few YouTube videos for non-integra specific replacements, and it didn't look difficult, so was just planning to tear into it :) ).

Thanks all,
Thomas

They are more flat than the itr bottom. The itr has better support on your hips.

Maybe you could get some from a upholstery shop?

They are like sitting on a coach really easy to miss the bolster when getting out and in unlike the bolster in our cars. These are the obd2 version. I think the 94-97 have a taller bolster than those but not as aggressive as the itr seats. Capital seating supplies the jdm version on a side note. Doubt they have the usdm version.

Thanks guys.

I’ve seen some how-tos for repairing the seat foam, so I guess that’s the route I’ll go at some point. I was hoping to just buy the part and swap it as my inexperience in foam fabrication likely will add cycles to the task... And really, deep down, it’d be nice peace of mind to have some fresh seat foam (who knows how many farts that seat foam has caught over the years :) )

You could consider a digital printer and replicating one as well. I would prefer restoring the original if the repairs hold up. If you could post the links to the videos on replacing the foam?I am interested in seeing them. Also interested in seeing your results when it is said and done. :D

This ad just popped up when I was surfing the web.

Is state the Right Front Cushion #6 (Passengers) still available ?
Could it be the same shape as Driver Seat #17 ?

That is a good idea. They appear identical.

Hm, it’s hard to tell from the image if they’re exactly the same, but I’m sure they’re pretty close (I mean, it’s a seat bottom. How different can they be?). My concern is that there might be some side-specific contours that might result in a lumpy/uneven seat if the sides foam bits are swapped. And really, spending $200+ on foam that still requires modification to install, was something I’m hoping to avoid.

If anyone that works at a dealership can confirm, that’d be amazing. Otherwise, I suppose I could take apart both seats to see (but in all likelihood, that passenger foam piece will be discontinued by the time I get around to that).

And, regarding the videos, just search for “Integra search foam repair” in Google and there are a good number of videos showing folks repairing their seats. I didn’t come across one that really stood out. I just watched the top results to just get an idea of what was involved.

I bought the driver side seat cushion about a year ago and had an upholstery shop swap it in for $100. It wasn't that long ago, so you may want to reach out to some dealers and see if one has it in their inventory and/or if they can actually see it in the system. I've seen foam get "rejuvenated" by using steam as well, so an upholstery place may be able to help determine if your current seat can be fixed.
