Dipstick Tube aka disptick t00b is loose again

Post by Jdmspoonitr » Tue Dec 11, 2018 5:15 pm

Has anyone actually figured out how to fix this?

The dipstick tube comes completely out of the block. It looks like it's meant to seat fully in there, but the hole in the block is not big enough to completely seat.

Even with the car completely hot off the track it does not seat properly. Have used Honda bond and still it only works temporarily. Hoping someone has a solution.

Thanks!

#t00bgate

The annoying thing is that there is the small diameter section that goes in the block. I'm good up to that point.

Then there is a medium step with a larger radius.

Then a final larger radius section.

The larger radius section doesn't come close to sitting down anywhere near the block. The medium step is too big to go in the block. The small section goes in when the car is hot, but when cold will barely go in.

So even when I attempt to Hondabond this thing, it really seems like there is not much t00b surface area actually contacting the block...

Part of me wants to rubber mallet the crap out of it, but knowing me a chunk of the block would break off. Other option is shave/machine some of that medium step off.

I have the same problem. Old one just spun around in the hole so got a new one last year. Like you, new one doesn't seat all the way. Thought about tapping it down using the lip on the t00b but my luck I'd probably I'd break it and make a minor problem into a major one

How did everything hold up at your last track day? I could see how this would be frustrating.

ive dealt with this a few times over the years. the only thing i do to stop them from leaking is pound them into the block until seated. if you can get a closed end wrench around the pipe down to the lip then you will be able to get it seated all the way hitting it with a hammer.. you will not break your block unless you really strong arm it or use a mini sledge. ive done this at least 3 times with success.
