Need Some Honda Advice - CTR Warranty

Post by voiddweller » Thu Apr 25, 2019 6:39 pm

Long story short, I took my car in for a check engine light "P2261" error code, Honda Tech line (per dealer) reviews data and says PCM was modified and will not cover repairs under warranty. I've taken the car to driving schools but it's never been raced.

The car is 100% stock.

I called Honda Customer Service and requested an escalation. I'm waiting to hear back and should receive a call within 1 to 2 business days.

Has anyone had to deal with this? Any constructive suggestions?

Thanks!

Are they saying they think the ECU was flashed?

Any indication as to what data led them to believe it was "modified"?

Are symptoms similar to what's reported here:

In regard to your first two questions, I was told by the GM the data suggests the ECU (he called it the PCM) was modified because the boost levels recorded were not possible with the stock programming.

Yes, the symptoms are identical to that thread.

Spoke with Dave-ROR to figure out why this wasn't a simple case of looking at the flash counter. Looks like it doesn't have one. I purposely didn't modify the car so I wouldn't need to deal with this crap.

Overboost could be a faulty solenoid to the bypass valve. This came from the same source that confirmed there is no reflash counter.

This sounds frustrating. I hope the dealer make things right, otherwise, I presume there are options from another Dealer.

Thanks!

I gave my permission for Honda corporate to send a PCM to compare with this one. The dealer is keeping the car over the weekend to get a baseline. The store GM stated that Honda had enough information to deny the claim due to modifications but Honda won't share the data with the dealer or me.

The only apps that I've used are RaceChrono Pro and Torque Pro. I tried the 'OBD2 for AA' app but never got it to work.

Plainly stated, if the car is and has always been unmodified, the dealer's claims are incorrect. Binary statement, but I truly hope Honda makes this right- otherwise, it nukes any plans for me ever buying a new CTR.

Yeah but I'd expand that to ANY Honda/Acura product for me. Normally I would just call BS on the OP not modifying the car but I know for a fact that this car has never been modified and that this situation is complete BS. Given that, if Honda doesn't make this right I will never buy another new Honda/Acura product again. (granted they currently don't make anything I would remotely consider buying anyways but still..)

If OP never modified the car then I think he should just stay 100% vigilant.

I hope this gets resolved in your favor, quickly.

This was the first kind of thing that came to my mine when the local Hoda dealership introduced me to the regional service manager when I came to pick up mine, it was still on the lift, and he began by asking me what I'd had done to it ...
