...especially with those pedals! :clownshoes:

It's an interesting piece for the 97 vs 98 value.
i dont really think comparing the barrett jackson 97 with this 98 is an even comparison when it comes to value. i believe the 98 sold for more solely based on the 97 opening caR enthusiast eyes to the type R. the 97 was the stepping stone that these Rs needed to be in the spotlight and now they are not off the radar like they were when the 97 sold. in my opinion if another 97 in that same condition popped up for sale it would beat either car considerably.
I was hoping for a discussion on this, so thanks for that. :)

Yeah, I'm curious myself. I know some people prefer the 98+ facelift in CW. I like both both but have preferred the 94-97 styling because of my old 95 GS-R.

What do we think a ~15k mile, nearly perfect condition, 97 or 98 would go for?
i also prefer the 94-97 front end. i like the sunken headlights over the smoother front end of the 98+.

i told a friend that the 98 would bring over 50k a few days ago but i was still surprised to see the hammer drop at 65.5

i dont think a 15k mile gem would bring much more than the BAT 98 did but i do believe a 5k mile diamond in the rough would be more likely to do better.. if another 97 pops up single owner with under 2k it will do closer to 90-100k now.. i think the 97 caR was stolen because less people were interested and the 98 is the true market value now that the rabbit is out of the hat.

Maybe I misunderstood some of the comments but didnt I read that the buyer was a previous owner of the car or something like that? If so, maybe thats why it went as high as it did, that sentimental value.

Or this was some big scam to drive the market up for the hoarders or those doing restorations and looking to sell. Not accusing anyone of anything, just a thought.

I find it hard to believe that it went as high as it did for being less than a perfect, low mileage example. There are plenty more that will be for sale so not sure why a bidding war was waged to get this one.

the seller was the original owner. the first sentence of the BAT listing stated that.. the buyer was referring to having a CW back in his stable by his comment as far as i could tell.

Yeah, I read the same thing. Previously owned another ITR, and the seller was the original owner. That comment did throw me off initially too.

Sadly, my BS meter slightly wondered if it was a market driver at one point too. Now that these cars have attracted more attention (that eBay 97 from early 2015 comes to mind as the moment), there are a lot of new faces involved.

I'm happy to see these cars being valued and appreciated since it is something we've all known since they came out. Look at the old photos of so many of us from meets and Expos from 15-20 years ago. However, some of the new players are in it for very different reasons. Let's hope our heritage and history is properly valued and respected in this new market. We know these cars best.

  no problem..

it could have sold for more.. one of the bidders(Lomly) said that there last minute bid didnt go in in time.. guess thats what they get for waiting so late to bid knowing the timer resets to 2 minutes after each bid..

I’m happy to see the outcome of this auction as I’m sure we all are! The 97 at Barrett was a true unicorn with less than 1200 miles and single ownership. Let’s not forget 2/3 less the amount produced as well. Remember being there and the guy stopping the auction to say, “ you’re going to look back in a few years and say this was cheap” This 98 auction showed it didn’t even take that long.

It's interesting to see how much the nostalgia factor is worth. The type r was seriously cool back in the day. With time and memories it has only added to that.

Could you post recent pics of your unicorn?
Don't have anything too recent. I posted these around 2-3 years ago. I've put the stock intake and bulbs back in.

I wonder if the Barrett Jackson 97 would've sold for more if it was listed on BaT...
