I was thinking the same... To add to it, would this ITR have sold for the same amount if it were advertised on craigslist or an Acura dealership for $70k (then bargained down to the purchased amount) or, it is because it is in an auction environment coupled with the "quality" of cars that BAT has created in its online presence?
It is really great that the OG owner found the car and had the loot out bid everyone. Cheers to him!

Exactly how I feel, I think the younger generation that grew up when the ITR was new is more in-tune with BAT vs say Barrett Jackson which feels like a baby boomer's auction house with all the american cars that get sold on there. Hell they have that goofy fast talking auction guy
Stuff like 80s and 90s BMWs seem to go for a lot on BAT and that 97 should have sold more than that 98 based on condition and mileage alone...

Yes, the Barrett car was in much better shape, less mileage, etc. What a difference 8 months makes?

I can only imagine that the low mileage combined with the single ownership is what made it worth so much. It wasn't a museum piece by any stretch, had some scuffs on it, and was owned within the rust belt(but clearly garaged). I can't imagine someone is willing to pay $65K for an ITR to drive so that begs the question as to why it was thought to be worth so much. Crazy to think that these caRs are worth so much that single ownership vs. 3 or 4 owners could sway a price by $20K+. That used to the be the price of a clean one less than 8 years ago. Goes to show that the new audience values them as a true collector car.
I'm a bit torn about these new values to be honest. While I feel a huge sense of pride that the car I've loved since it's inception has shed it's ricer stigma and is now looked at as a true collector car, it does make the usefulness of the car itself a bit unobtainable for a buyer wishing to use it as it is intended(branded title and beat up ones excluded). As for me personally, I'm afraid to drive mine knowing that even a minor collision could severely hurt its potential value. It has taken away from my ownership experience and I kinda regret selling my previous one it was meant to be driven and wouldn't have any of the current collector market value, thus maintaining its intended enjoyment. Catch 22 I guess.
Look at the 2000 PY on BaT right now. Only 20k miles more and 4 owners (aside from the current owner transferring it 3 more times within family members) and it's only at $25,750 and I can't see it climbing to $40k+ in the last few minutes. I could be wrong though so I'll check back here afterwards to hopefully eat my words.
Could this be a changing of the guards? New ownership demographic looking differently at the car then all us long time owners do? It's both exciting and stressful at the same time

Closing bid was $30750 and the reserve wasn't met. I'd say that is pretty much top dollar for that mileage and condition. The market has spoken.
