I have been communicating with a Type R Expo community member currently living in Japan. Due to the high rate of Honda discontinuing ITR parts, I have asked him to explore if Japan is also facing similar issues. I have already confirmed European markets are facing similar issues.

Given glass is involved, this is a concern for domestic shipping, even more so for international.

UPS returned my order to IRUNOEM last Thursday for unknown reasons. Now I'm extra nervous but I know Cris at IRUNOEM takes special care when shipping our parts so I'm confident.

The Acura supplied version has no packing. The glass is loose . The styrofoam wrap is it’s protection.

Never heard of this site.

Checked one of the part numbers and it says delivered to me Aug 13 - Sep 14. Crazy!
I’ve used them before so I can vouch for them. It’s basically a service in Japan that can source parts from the various car manufacturers or their dealerships. The normal turnaround time is roughly ten days or so IIRC. The pandemic is why the shipping is suspended right now. I’ve found several parts over the past couple of years available through Amayama that Acura show as discontinued. But as time goes on more parts on hand in Japan are drying up.

I second the suggestion that you go ahead and order them. If it turns out the parts are not available, which does happen, they’ll quickly refund you and cancel the order. They will update the status of your order throughout the process.

Also Stin’s photo shows the pathetic lack of protection for the quarter glass. That just reminded me that one of mine was damaged when I ordered a set last year - and mine were delivered to an Acura parts department straight from a Honda warehouse on their truck! No UPS or other carrier.

Amayama does a great job packing loose items. They did a killer packing job on an a/c condenser upper bracket earlier this year. Thing is they’d have to know to open the Honda box to better pack the quarter glass, so yeah tell them in the special instructions box. They have English speaking employees.

One more thing... if you don’t end up getting new ones, there’s a post in a restoration thread here in the Golden Era Hondas subforum where someone successfully sanded or wet sanded the rubber moldings on his quarter glass in multiple steps, and the after photos looked great. Wish I remembered which thread. Maybe they’ll see this thread.

If you’re doing a glass-out repaint I can’t say how successful reusing the quarter glass would be. I haven’t done that.

It’s a terrible situation for us, when we’re trying to restore or maintain the ITRs and other classic Hondas. I understand the business can’t support making parts for all the old cars forever, but I think we’ve been vocal in everything from attempting to place the orders, or even the fact we bought up all the stock! Also through social media, forums, etc. The S2000 20th anniversary campaign in Japan that put the feelers out for what parts owners would like to see brought back and/or continued to be available, is a positive sign.

I really need to put my thoughts together and write American Honda about this. Does anyone else think how strange it is that Acura uses the ITR and NA1 NSX in the “Beat That” ad for nostalgia but we’ll soon be struggling to keep them out on the roads to be enjoyed?

There’s a plastic tab at the rear on the original that is probably going to break on removal. You can’t replace it. You get to use window adhesive on reuse.

That would be mine. Came out pretty good with a multi step sanding and trim restore.
