I think I would almost do this now and pack away the OEM ecu so that I don't have to worry about it failing and finding another.
If the car isn't going to run like factory with the JDM ecu then the best bet would be something tunable.
I'm mostly stock except for my hitech header and CT Ice Box. Id imagine there is some HP to be made on a tune even with minor bolt ons.
What leads you to Neptune?
Are you asking why Neptune vs another tuning software or Neptune vs JDM ecu?
Ive used it in the past on two cars. A turbocharged b18c and H2B. The tuner I spoke of at that time preferred it.

Oh to clarify, I was asking why Neptune to better understand your prefences. I understand if your tuner preferred for it at the time. I see Neptune have added bluetooth via an add-on module, that is a feature I've long since enjoyed in my Hondata and recommend. I've owned PowerFC, Neptune RTP, AEM EMS, and Hondata for S300 & KPro.

Yeah Id say Neptune based on past experience but if there is a better deal to be had on Hondata or AEM (marketplace) then I would buy that. I think I would only need the the basics. The only thing I would spend extra on would be RTP vs burning chips. I'm not tuning the car so being able to drive over to my tuner and have him connect a USB cable on it seems way more convenient.

So may I branch off a little from my original questions....
If going to an OBD1 (chipped) tuning solution what happens to the EVAP component's?
If left in place - Check engine light? drivability issues?
or
Are the deleted in some manner?

I think people just "tune out" the emissions parts, such as the secondary 02 sensor.

Oh I agree, we are well past the days of burning chips.
Hondata is one of the oldest sponsors of Type R Expo, I'm a big fan of supporting those who financially support our community. Matt at Hondata also owns DC2 & FK8 Type R's.

I kept all my emissions components with my S300 setup so I still have the original EVAP setup, I just inverted it just in case, but I haven't had any issues with it still on. Tried it unplugged and didn't feel well driving my car, realized I better leave it on as is...
Didn't see any EVAP related check engine lights when it was unplugged.
