Just to clarify...

The public registry on integratyper.org is run by Matt Hayes. He built a site a with a ton of great info and documents. At the same time, ITRCA built a private database with a lot of info (Joe / Doespike's creation). However, it's not a public facing piece for a variety of reasons.

Matt and I discussed merging his site into our new site (working on that now). From there, we can create a newer public registry for all R models.

The registry guy updated it when I bought my R 2 years ago. He was very responsive.
Matt hasn’t been active in years.

Well he was active at least 2 years ago like I said. Plus reading the post above sounds like he's helping ITRCA with a collaboration.

That would be nice. I'm sure it will take a lot of effort. And then of course, it will require constant maintenance just to keep it mostly current. Thankless job, no doubt.

Still, for a data geek like me, it is fun to pour through the numbers.

A few on here have considered re-running an approach from AndyT's many years ago. An automated data pull based off VIN data could efficiently get title status in an efficient manner. We just need someone will skills to write the script.

The script part sounds easy to me... I teach that stuff in my courses at Colorado State University. The part that sounds hard to me is the "pulling data" task. Pulling data from where? I'm not aware that VIN data is public. Are you suggesting that someone on the board has access to a national-level subscription database?

I need to re-visit that original project. At the time, I thought it was pulling from the Acura Owner's Link to count models sold each year as well as color.

I suppose it's possible for someone with an unlimited carfax account (dealer) to do this, but it might raise a flag.

I do not think AHM has that info. If they did, they probably would not share it with us.

With a quick Google for free VIN checks, I found this:
The federal government offers VIN checks, free of charge, through the National Insurance Crime Bureau https://www.nicb.org/how-we-help/vincheck, which provides data on the vehicle’s current state of title and last title date, brand history, odometer reading, total loss history, and salvage history. The VINCheck tool permits five searches within a 24-hour period per IP address. Note that records can take up to six months to appear in the federal database and only show up if the event was recorded by an insurance company. Meanwhile, you can plug the VIN into the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s database to find out if a vehicle has been recalled.

Good find! Five doesn't scale well, unless someone wants to run 5x/day for a few months.

I would be willing to help if we can script the process.
