Dave7CDMTYPER wrote: Mon Jun 05, 2023 1:36 pm Quick update. I got my block back from Golden Eagle. Still waiting on the head from 4Piston.

I have yet to start assembly, mainly b/c I'm nervous about what to do about bearings. I recently met a guy who builds race cars. I might "hire" him to help me out with this step so I do it correctly.
Don't over think it.

If you're using the original main bolts and there was no machine work done to the main bore then just go with a standard sized set of your choosing.

I usually get a standard set and an extra clearance set which is .001 more clearance. Then I can manipulate the clearances to be where I want with each main bore. You want more clearance on the center main bore to allow crankshaft flex.

Get some green plastigage not red. Do a dry install and set the plastigage on each crank journal don't move the crank and torque the mains down then pull it apart and see where each falls and you can change the bearings around to tighten or loosen it if you need to. You can mix and match the bearing halves to get a .0005 split if you only need a small adjustment.

Let us know what you decide to do

Thank you sir. That race car builder is gonna come by and help me with the bearing measuring process and to start assembly.

Update! Starting to make progress again. I met a guy who builds race cars, he's going to help me assemble the engine. But I'll do it with him and learn as we go. He came over yesterday and we measured the crank journals. They are all in spec, so standard sized bearings will work. We figured out the color codes etc. I want to go with new oem bearings if possible, I'll see what Honda has in stock. Once I get those and maybe a few more new bolts etc for bottom end then we'll assemble! After bottom end is assembled then we'll do the cyl head. I still need to post pics of the cyl head after it came back from 4 Piston.

Rad. Assembling an engine was always a goal of mine. I bet this will be a fun learning opportunity.

Lets go!! I know it'll happen...it's your first build, so my only cheat offering is to put the oil squirters in the moment you're done finalizing the main clearances. KIU!!!
