I'd love to own a race base myself. It's definitely unique. Someone out there will appreciate that.
Unfortunately, since values started skyrocketed in Jan 2015, a lot R "enthusiasts" have entered. They might have a large following, ego, etc, but often they lack knowledge. ....but that social media cred must be worth something.

Hello J,
I appreciate the support. I will just have to wait until a well (or at least somewhat) informed buyer comes along. I am still thinking about Bring a Trailer and changing the present rims to steelies.

Hello,
Steelies. I have though about replacing some of other parts (fibreglass bumper and hood, exhaust manifold, exhaust system, coilovers, etc) with factory but really like to keep them because they are part of its history when it was raced in Japan.

I thought this was a more widely known topic but the "Race Base" was a real thing that Honda sold for racers to get into a CTR for less money for their One Make Cup or other series at the time. It was all the good stuff a racing Type R needed from the factory but in a "no frills" option. It came with steel wheels because race teams would likely choose light-weight racing wheels, i.e.: TE37s or similar. It came with the cheap, basic interior (no MOMO steering wheel, Recaro seats, radio, power accessories or anything a race car would not need) because all of that would be gutted in favor of a roll-cage, racing bucket seat and other safety related items. Honda, staying true to its racing heritage, is offering a similar package with the current CTR but instead of being basic to allow the budget minded privateer the option to choose their own upgrades, the Honda racing team is creating turn-key factory-prepped touring cars with a much heftier price tag.

Hmm I am not surprised something like the race base exists in Japan, especially when Toyota did something similar with the GT86.
