2023...TBD. Last year, I needed to step away and focus on a stressful situation in my personal life. Others in the group stepped up to see what 2022 could bring, but it did not work out. Running an Expo level event is not easy, and the current times have not helped. Securing a good track with good dates is very difficult unless you pay up front, and that is assuming that date is available.
Currently, the community is spread out all over. On social media alone, there are too many groups and pages to sift through. I'm unsure how much interest we have from attendees both new and old, volunteer staff, and so on to put another one together yet. It's something that we need to assess.
I still want to do an Expo reunion event, even if it does not include a track event. After the many years of signing my name on expensive contracts, I have less interest in taking on that liability personally. However, I think a lot of miss seeing each other, even if it's just once a year. I will talk to some other groups that we've worked with in the past and see what opportunities might arise. We've definitely helped some groups in the past, and I believe in karma.
In the meantime, we've restarted work on building the Type R Club / Expo / ITRCA website that will help document Expo, the cars, history, etc. After that's done, we'll focus on what kind of event we can do. I will also check-in with contacts at AHM when we our ideas solidified.
Thanks to everyone who has continued interest in this. It means a lot. Expo was a huge part of my life and basically a second job that could reward when seeing everyone hanging out at Expo. We pulled off some amazing events.

Does NSXCA have some sort of dues that members pay? I thought I saw something like this where they have a president, treasurer, etc. This could help with fees on the front end.
Perhaps we can have a store or something as well. I know I asked for ITRCA stickers before the website changed to Type R Club of America and others have as well. Just a thought.
I get what everyone has said, that it's difficult and there are things we won't know because we are not in your shoes, but I think we should use the best resource we have, which is the people in this group/club/scene -whatever you want to call it.
Social Media is an issue with all the groups and people have seemed to leave forums for that, but I think that means we need to be active in promoting it and some stuff doesn't have to be all monetary stuff. I can't speak for everyone here, but I would like to think a lot of us would be willing to help in some fashion.

1. Depending on the track I would be willing to financially underwrite some of the deposit costs
2. I think we need to get on FB groups and push people back on here - FB stinks as a car forum to begin with
Expo 3 was the only event I went to and it marked the beginning of my love of racing cars etc - i think keeping this tradition alive is important

Brand new member living in the Lansing, MI area, wanted to say that I would be happy to assist with planning Expo 2023 if there is any plan for the event to be held in the Midwest. I've been collecting vintage Acura's and Honda's for several years now, however just picked up my first ITR and couldn't be happier. As I have seen in some of the previous threads, the car is well known to the community (98-0022), and I just couldn't pass up a car with such an interesting history!
Thanks for allowing me to join the community,

I was thinking about spearheading a meet at VIR for Hyperfest. I think that event would be pretty fun and not require much effort to plan....since NASA Mid-Atlantic did all the work. Lol
It's a track event, too, so Type R owners can even register to participate!
Anyone interested?

Yes, NSXCA membership is $50-60 per year (US/Int'l)
https://nsxca.org/join-us
NSXPO fees vary:
* Social: $400 in 2022
* Track event: $375 in 2022 *track costs offset by social & sponsorship funding

I'll own this. I have a back burner project to:
* Release stickers and banners that we never made for past Type R Expo's
* Re-release stickers, t-shirts, and banners, for previous Type R Expo's
* Release special banners, such as the Expo flag from Type R Expo 17
Note, these will be high quality comfortable shirts. Every have a thick scratchy cotton shirt that doesn't fit or a massive ink print that sticks to you? None of that.
Status:
* ID'd t-shirt brand (Canvas)
* ID'd water-based ink for t-shirts
* ID'd printer for t-shirts
Need: Finalize one new design & one retro re-release design

I wholly agree. We have always been a community-run organization owned by the community for the community.

My candid feedback is be open/willing to travel. The caravan can be one of the highlights. Or, take a flight and enjoy the community time. I flew and then drove to every Type R Expo 2012-2018.

I/others know #980022 well. I attended many Type R Expo's and even a TI Dragon Run or two with a prior owner.

I like your go-getter spirit. Community-run events like your idea have long-since been anchors in the community and do not compete nor replace Type R Expo, they compliment each other.
Several here have planned community track days with Chin Motorsports, NASA, and others, to which I have flown in, drove to, tracked, drove back, flown home, etc. Always fun when the car doesn't blow up. For the flight costs, I opt for groups with the most track time (not a dig against NASA- just prefer 3.5hrs of track time over <2hrs.) I say yes, build a post, and we can push.
Someone could also step up to create a 2023 community calendar like I've done in the past.

The reality is we need to put 50% down now up front to secure a track date. Depending on the track and day, ie weekend (Fri-Sun) or weekday (Mon-Thurs), the rates double from week day to week end. The cheapest tracks (ie not big name, but fun none the less) are $10k/day for weekend where as big name tracks are $35k
if one can even get a weekend date, which is a big if with the current track day popularity.
I say this to be transparent and
try to set expectations. A small handful committee leads last year were willing to pool funds to front this larger sum but it was stressful and is too much to ask IMO. As soon as one person had a life event it increases the financial stress for everyone else.
