Sort of Fast wrote: Tue Mar 20, 2018 1:04 pm I knew I recognized this car. Didn't realize you tracked it in a specific series...what exactly is the name of it? It's something sponsored by ASR? Wish we had more of a track Honda scene here. Would really love the competition. You should definitely consider Super Lap Battle despite the drive. Buttonwillow is a great benchmark track.
I had a post up on old forums, but I'm not really active on these much. I drove the J32 hatch at Buttonwillow in 2016 and 2017. The "Guess Work" Civic...lol. I also have a 97 with a shaved bay but JDM front end. Will be running it at GridLife series this year with the ITR as I'm switching to a RWD platform this year and will need a few years to get a proper build together.
Sorry I misunderstood your question originally... The local track is called Arroyo Seco Raceway, so we call it ASR for short. I did not mean the ASR suspension parts, and when you mentioned ASR I thought you had been to Arroyo Seco Raceway.

I saw your civic at Buttonwillow SLB this past November. Wish I would have known you were on here, and met you in person. Be sure to make posts with the 97 and the Gridlife experience!

Long time no update. I have just been driving the caR at the local track events. The maxxis RC-1 tires perform great, but I have never had a brand new set of R compounds to compare them too so I feel like my input for evaluation is moot at this point.

I do have a question though. I picked up a 2D wing and cannot remember the width of it right now off the top of my head, but it did come with wing stands that I will probably end up having to cut a little to make it level with the roof.

My question is; should I wait till I can balance the aero package with a front splitter, or shall I install it before the next event and let er rip tater chip and see how it feels with just the wing? When I get home I will take some pictures of it so you guys can see the details of the air foil.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Awesome

I know this car was a royal pain to build. The upside to having a non original motor, engine bay etc is there is no reason to thing about values. Just enjoy the heck out of it as Honda intended.

Exactly my thoughts as well. I am having a hard time though convincing myself to work the rear quarter panels to fit a 245 tire. We shall see with more time, as I am not in any rush to make that happen soon.

Some changes have happen since the last update. I went to GTA SLB again, got a wild hair and said "fuck it" throw some aero on. So home made splitter set up and wing. Airfoil was made by a friend that bought some sort of foam core already shaped, and then wrapped it in carbon fiber. End plates and wing stands were also home made.

I could not really tell that much of a difference but went 0.5 seconds faster... Could have been anything.

So during the splitter build shit was not lining up at all. I got in touch with a previous owner to inquire about potential damage from accident as I already knew it had a jdm front on it at one point during its life... Sure as shit the passenger side frame rail/bulkhead was replaced from the forward section of the motor mount. :clownshoes: Yay

Got the local track season opener coming up at the end of March. I am really hoping that I will notice the aero in the direction we are going, as it has the highest speed turn at the end of our long straight. We shall see. Hopefully I will update the thread sooner than 3 months post event :)

So I picked up some used 225/45r15 hoosier r7 tires. Wow these are a good bit wider than the RC1 in the same size. That being said, in the rear I am getting rubbing on the RTA. However, it is only on driver side RTA. Is there an alignment adjustment that could cause the tire to be rubbing only on one side. Or is there a good chance something is bent out of spec that my eyes cannot detect?

Thanks dudes. (I need to keep up with the site more than I do. Everyone's builds are coming along great.)

Wow, long time no update.

Last post I was inquiring about the different sides of my RTAs. Well come to find out when I picked up the caR it had the rear conversion using the 4x100 spindles. Unfortunately I had to find out the hard way. Me not knowing, when I did the hub/bearing assembly I used OEM ITR parts. With the 4x100 spindle, after years of abuse, the spindle sheared off one day at the track and I went for a wild ride as the wheel ejected.

Some track pics prior to failure:

Failure Carnage:

So after the failure, picking up a new 5 lug since rear RTAs are impossible to find by themselves, and trying to figure out what happen, I found out about the 4x100 conversion shenanigan's. Low and behold, the new set up was the same shit FML. I went ahead and threw it on, used the Mazda nut that people said worked, rather than the OEM stuff that I mistakenly used prior and that is what is currently on it. Now, Honed Develpments sells their nut/washer assembly and I will mostly likely purchase that for piece of mind. With the sky rocketing prices of everything since covid hit, I was able to snatch up an OEM 32mm actual 5x114.3 set up as well that I have for yet another spare set up. :moneyburn:

Fast forward from 2019 to this past weekend.

The ITR sat for a while after that. Did not really lose interest, but lost interest in the market as I cannot afford now what things cost in the case of something failing again. I was able to sell the 3 good Rays wheels I had, and bought some Federal RS-RR tires just to get it rolling again. I wanted to show the caR off a little since it had been out for so long, that I went to a local track event this past weekend. It was so much fun.

Updates as of recent:
Timing belt, tensioner, WP 7/18/21
235/40r17 Federal RS-RR tires on 17x8 +35 Team Dynamic wheels

Damn seeing that rear spindle shearing looks freighting to experience.

What are your general impressions running 17s vs 15s?

I have the engine turned down (detuned) for the rules my local series runs, so I am currently at 167 whp. That being said, if I keep momentum up they are great. However, I can feel the car being sluggish when it falls out of the upper RPM range. When I was on brand new Maxxis RC1 225/45r15 tires I ran a best of 1.19.89 on the track. This past weekend with the Federal RS-RR 235/40r17 tires I ran a best of a 1.20.78. Cannot complain at all for the cheap federals, but if this were a street car and I was always in the lower RPM range, I could see the 17s being annoying. However, if it were a street car I would also have it fully tuned and running the ~200whp, soooooo hard to gauge.
