I saw the post! I'm happy to see that too.
Somewhere in this photo, your old 97 #00163 and 97 #00151 were at Expo 3 I believe.
...and probably Expo 4 as well...

I ran across the rebuild thread from the previous owner of your car during my research of other Type Rs.
It has had a rough life.
Glad it is being rebuilt properly!

Yep, I still need to make a post on that chapter. It's definitely had a rough life. I have a few years to document in here that will eventually get us to now.
Fast forward to this week, I now have a 97R hatch with the proper glass here:
There will be a thanks to those involved about this once the story reaches that time.

I think the gist of the story is the thieves first ruined the car and the previous owner didn't do it any favors.
Such a shame and pretty upsetting.

That's a tough one. It's a yes and no. Given the era, he did what was viewed as good and normal. K-series swaps were new and exciting to some. JDM ITR fronts were the way to go on any car that wasn't perfect. I'm still a b-series fan but also enjoy the k-series in my daily TSX.
...
The past life story will come soon. Anyway, life got crazy here. Along with hosting Expo 16 VIR, we also had the first combined NSXPO with Type R Expo in 2017. Life suddenly felt busy. That Expo was one of the busiest I've ever managed due to the combined nature and parties involved. Mix that with now being a parent a few weeks prior to the event, and I was losing track of time.
I had been slowly prepping the engine bay with items including hoses, reservoirs, etc. I knew the wiring was crap but kicked that can down the road a bit. The car came with a chopped LS exhaust, and I swapped that out for an OEM ITR one.
We needed a larger home for a family that went from 2 to 3, and I wanted this car to move on its own power. 10/23/17, my friend from Acura (Andrew) came over, and we dropped the engine in the chassis in less than an hour, just before a huge storm.
When I checked the radar just before dropping it in, I told him we only had an hour. He said, "no problem"...and that was that.

Andrew is a boss.
Keep the stories coming! You're also inspiring me to get back to recreating my rebuild thread. It's so much work but I enjoy reading your stories.

Very true. Both the front-end and K-swaps were the thing to do back then.
I just found this thread:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-int ... s-2627427/
The theft of your car wasn't as bad as most fortunately. Lots of vital parts were left on the car like speedometer, clock, and door panels.
How is the paint job holding up?
Was the rear right corner of the car damaged by the thieves or prior to the theft?
Still shocked the previous owner won the auction with the $450 bid and $650 after fees, etc!
