It’s been roughly 2 months since the caR went to the body shop. I’ve been really impatient and it’s been driving me insane since I was quoted two weeks. I briefly spoke to Jorge (insidiouseg6) and we came to the conclusion that body shops often tend to take their time. However I’ve made sure not to rush him because I prefer for him to take his time and do it properly rather than rushing it and giving me back a nightmare. He told me that it should be done by this upcoming weekend and my fingers are crossed it’s finally done! He has been updating me every once in a while which has sort of been holding me over. He called me over a week ago and he was laying paint down on the underside of the hood and the trunk. I was only able to get pictures of the hood since he was painting the trunk when I walked in. But I was highly pleased to see something painted.

I have also been working away at the suspension as well as buying odds and ends needed to finish assembling this thing. I’m so eager to get it up and running.

Saving this makes you a beast in my book. Like many of us, seeing the diamond in the rough is a virtue that's dying. Subscribed.

Thanks man, the feeling is mutual. I grew up reading the forums, and seeing the amount of effort people put into their own cars. A time where it was much less about scene points and more about authentic enthusiast building their dreams into existence. I always see the potential something “can be”.

Car is coming back from paint this week and the suspension should be back in a day or two! Updates coming soon!!

Agreed. Now the cookie cutters are out in masses thinking a properly built car is rims and suspension and your done. Irks the heck out of me.

Looking forward to those updates.

It’s been quite a while without a solid update. While the car still sits at the body shop I was very hopeful in having it back this weekend but there were some troubles they came across. Turns out the car had a clear film over the paint to protect it, I assume from it being baked in the sun or something along those lines it’s flaking bad. This caused them to spend nearly a whole day just sanding the doors down. With that being said I have not stepped foot in the shop since this. I am very involved in the paint process just because I have never gotten a whole car painted Or even had body work done at all. I will try stopping by later on to see the progress.

Here are the only pictures worth posting as there’s not much past this:

On to a more uplifting update. Aside from this caR I also had a 94 RS that I bought over a year ago. I bought it Ls-turbo, sold the turbo swap, put my gsr swap in, sold the whole car to a buddy of mine, and he sold it back to me, I took the swap out as that’s what I’ll be using in this caR, for the time being. Since I took out the swap it’s just been sitting. Friday night I finally sold it! Woohoo! Along with the sale I also received a set of front USDM ITR Front seats. They are in decent condition but were filthy. I packed them up in my car and left them there over night. The next morning when I open my car doors it smelled as if they’re had been a weed smoking party inside. The seats reeked! So I searched online and I came across this old thread. I followed his steps and I was very pleased with the outcome. Here is the link for any of you that would like to clean your seats, it works on both USDM AND JDM as they’re made of the same fabric:

As you can see in the pictures there wasn’t any daylight left when I finished. The water in the thread above was clean compared to that of these seats. I just have the headrests left and probably the armrest too.

I recommend steaming the seats even though the thread said it doesn’t do anything. It does do something as it kills bacteria and eliminate odors such as the cypress hill concert smell. If you have the carpet cleaning attachment you can throw a microfiber over that and it will extract a lot more than what you can do by hand. They still came out clean but just a future recommendation if they start to smell funky again. Great thread by the way. Can’t wait to see her fully de-riced.

Great job on the cleaning. Ive used this personally on my own recaros in fear of mildew. Letting them air dry is scary, especially when you think of bacteria. Just like OP stated steam killing is definitely a great way to do it. Best way to kill it in one shot, bacteria and mildew? Vinegar! Yes it will smell strong at first but it helps displace moisture while speeding up the drying process it helps combat bacteria.

Thanks, I’ll defintely do this later on down the road. I didn’t take into consideration that these seats have probably been mistreated and farted on for at least the past 17 years.

Thanks for the heads up, if I decide not to rent a carpet cleaner from HD, I’ll most definitely try this method out!

I should also add that I have purchased another set of ITR seats and these are physically in better condition. They will still have to be cleaned along with the rears. I will post pictures of this within the next week or so.

Onto some better news, finally after 3 long months I have began receiving parts back from the painter! So far I’ve gotten back both bumpers and the side skirts. Tomorrow I should be picking up the spoiler and lip. I am so happy to be seeing some of that nice Championship White laid down. As for the rest of the car, he still has to primer the trunk pan as well as the trunk. After that’s done it’ll be paint time and I’ll finally have my caR back!! Sorry for the over use of explanation marks, I’m on edge. I cannot wait to start piecing this together and ultimately enjoy it. Here’s some pictures of the parts I got back yesterday:

Side skirts:

These pictures do not even do it justice! I’ll try to take better pictures on the next batch of parts!

Finally, after three long months the caR is finally back from the body shop! I was so uneasy and getting very impatient, but it was well worth the wait! The body work came out great, you can’t even tell it once had wider quarter panels. I am completely wowed with the paint. I also received just about all the body panels, only thing missing is the trunk, which I should be receiving this week *hopefully*.

Here are some pictures:

I decided to just let it soak up the sun while I worked on something else. One of the first parts I ordered was a lock/ignition set. I began assembling the door handles only to find out I didn’t have any of the c-clips for the lock cylinders. Even though I was missing the clips I put them together and just wrapped it up so the lock wouldn’t fall out.

Wow. Looks like they did a great job! What a save man. Going to be an amazing feeling when its all done and being able to take that original picture from back in the day, to the day you received it, to the day it was finished. <---- THAT needs to be in a picture frame.
