I started getting p0170 and P0172 . Manual for diagnostic. It ended up being the purge solenoid. It created a vacuum leak and fuel trim was crap. If you get these two codes together. Cap the evap hose to the manifold unplug it and drive it . It’s a lot quicker than following this pdf. So I now have one bad 98 itr purge valve that causes a p1457 and another that causes p0170,p0172,&p1457 . Anyone have a good purge they will sell me ? Or anyone know someone that can rebuild these things?

Really been procrastinating. The car had the wrong hardware for the door pockets and they were super nasty. Probably the worst on the car .

Changed primary o2 sensor . I meant to do this several years ago and totally forgot about it . The car had some aftermarket o2 sensor and or was cut in two places for some reason . Replaced with denso. I believe they manufacture the oem o2 which is over $300 the last time I checked. It’s identical to an original .

Always fun to see updates for this particular car, it has quite the history between Asahi and journeytyper.
I know journeytyper ran a test pipe plus O2 bypass sensor, unsure if those are still on the car. I can confirm the primary O2 was not hacked at that time. I know the person after journeytyper rebuilt the motor twice, so it's possible the primary O2 wiring was damaging during pulling the motor or later through another owner.
You were wise to go direct to MFG versus pay the current Honda uptick in pricing.

What is a o2 sensor bypass sensor? When I got the car it had that o2 sensor attached to a toda header and a test pipe with a bolt plugging the secondary o2 . I sourced a Oem catalyst and installed the secondary o2 with a nippon unit at the same time. The car had a p0420 I believe with the test pipe.coolhandluke wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 6:34 pm Always fun to see updates for this particular car, it has quite the history between Asahi and journeytyper.
