Oh yeah, just picked up a set of the 195/60 14 Falkens for my old, EF sedan race car. We’re going to give them a try at GL South just for fun and giggles. Should be Jabaay, Mike Taylor, and Kutil swapping track time. Maybe see if Tomo can jump in and put us all to shame too?
Heck yes!
And yes, there were an original 615 (and 215.) Falken used to be the default tire for our crew due to price and performance.
Should be a fun time! Also driving my 996TT up and Giles will have The Badger there also. Bad news is that Mike’s STL car is still banged up from Road America and Eric’s car is in pieces from engine issues. Should still have enough stuff to play with though.
Ahhhhh... the 215. I ran across a receipt in my email recently from Vulcan Tire circa 2002-2003. Those tires were SOOOOO cheap and actually pretty capable. Yeah, they also got really greasy but they were groundbreaking for the street tire category.

Are you using those rare 14x8s flow formed wheels in huge demand?
But really I cant wait to see what the SSC guys times are in nationals this sept.
Yeah, it’s a case of having some extra 14x7’s laying around and the Falkens were cheap enough to be worth trying on it.
SSC looks like an interesting class... good to see it grow.

Recap from GridLife South:
The EF Sedan did probably 6-8 sessions per day over 3 days (~6-7 hours on track). These little 195 Falkens are an absolute riot. Smooth and progressive breakaway, great heat tolerance, and amazing wear. There was no visual wear of the tires all weekend; they just look scuffed up/have some pickup on them. Having driven them on FWD now, I’d definitely vouch for them as a solid Trackday tire option. They’re still not the fastest for autox but they’re otherwise a super solid option.

Same as the R7. It’ll be fine and drive just like a 205 R7. Ideally, you’d have more front tire but should be no issue running these.

Thanks Xian! Just looking for something a little more aggressive than my S-drives for the occasional track day and yearly expo run.

Obviously my $0.02 but any of the 200TW tires will be quite a bit more fun*.
*bigger slip angle and sweet spot, cheaper, lasts longer.

While great doe the street, the sdrives howl like a dog at the moon. They would get to a certain point and then feel like they were gonna just let go, and that point was nowhere near what the car is capable of.

Rad. That is so awesome, especially since this is your old car. It reminds me of when I re-purchased 98-1040 and took it to it's first Expo in 2010. Nolan and Phil flew out from AZ. They drove my car during the instructor/advanced sessions on top of my intermediate sessions. I had zero issues with the car.
