Dumb, Stubborn, and bound to end up penniless…….

3rd coat (rust bullet) is on the front wheel wells and floor pan!

Not saying it’s show quality but that was never the goal. It is well protected now and that’s what I wanted.

Next I’ll need to finish up the body cart, spin the shell around and wrap up the rear wheel wells and rest of the underside.

My body cart is pretty much welded up.
I still need to cut slots for each pinch weld to drop into, drill some holes, and weld some nuts on so I’ll be able to run bolts in to lock against the pinch weld.

Hopefully I can get it all done this week!

Started getting some undercoating on the wheel wells.

The spray from the 3m can is surprisingly narrow and heavy, bit messier than I’d have liked on this first one but my technique is getting better.

Looks good! Did you use the Transtar coating? It can def be sticky and messy, but it lays down really evenly!

I'm using 3m 03584 Professional Grade Rubberized Undercoating
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005W ... UTF8&psc=1

I've had good experience with 3m products so I tend in that direction, case price also saves some money.

I was actually surprised that it's not super sticky right away, it sticks really well as it dries but when it's first sprayed it's closer to a thick custard. You have some time to clean up larger glops if you spray too heavy or spray too hard\close and make a sort of bubble, you can either work it around a little or wipe it off and respray the spot. For me though if I press the nozzle all the way down it throws way too powerful\heavy a jet, especially when full. You have to keep the pressure closer to about 1/2 at the start and increase pressure as you get through a can. No issue with runs that I've noticed but I think I am losing a lot of material, at least spraying almost vertical (can near horizontal) at times and trying to keep pressure lower a lot of material collects on the can around the nozzle. So far I'm about 3 cans in with front wheel wells and passenger floor pan.

The final product looks solid. Bravo for the tireless effort here.

I believe both of you are in totally different environments to compare how the products apply either way . If I am right you two are opposite ends of the country. Humidity tempature plays a big part. Keep the updates coming.

Thanks.

On the choice of products we are in different regions. Undercoating for me is only about trimming road noise and a forgiving finish. Even in SoCal I’m not saying that what I used was the way to go. Frankly I’m just hoping I get it on well enough and clean enough to stay on for years.
