What are we thinking for Expo in 2021?
Currently pursuing our original 2020 plan as well as some others. A lot has changed since we nearly signed the contract for 2020, including support from certain parties that influenced our 2020 plans. It's a bit of a reset.
Always appreciative of the updates and willing to assist as an instructor or any duties that keep Expo going for many years to come. I bet everyone is itching to get back out to Expo in 2021 whether it's East and/or West Coast. Looking forwards to more future updates. Thanks Jay and the rest of the committee members for all you do.jayhaire wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 1:05 pmCurrently pursuing our original 2020 plan as well as some others. I won't go into the survey details yet, but it does capture a community that wants Expo to return at a time just before the pandemic hit. There were some great comments that reminded us how special the event is, and those made me smile -- thank you. At the same time, I learned that some of my questions and response options should be improved.
As far as 2021, late summer / early fall is our target. Location is TBD. Let's hope something works out. Based on the survey results, we'll probably change a few things that hopefully improve Expo for most people.
I can explain a bit more detail on what our 2020 plans were.
2020's Plans
In fall 2019, we started talks with Atlanta Motorsports Park about a June 2020 event. We had some great support lined up as well. There were other options available, but this one had the best opportunities.
In Jan / Feb 2020, I was concerned about where global health was heading. When F1 was forcing teams to drive to Spain for testing instead of fly, that was alarming. I talked to AMP, and delayed our event to Sept 2020. Concurrently during the first week of Feb, I also became extremely sick to a degree that scared me. That's another story.
We were also preparing for a potential SoCal Expo 2021. The goal was to announce both East and West events at the same time. However, we realized it would be a bit reckless and careless to do so as things were starting to shut down across Europe (and eventually, to a lesser degree, here).
We never announced it, and which also meant we didn't have to do announce a postponement / cancellation of Expo.
...
So, here we are with a bit of a reset for 2021. We'll probably ask for a few more volunteers to help out once we have more secure plans. Thanks to everyone who offered their help in the survey. We'll be in touch!
Thank you for the kind comments.Asian-G wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 5:53 pmAlways appreciative of the updates and willing to assist as an instructor or any duties that keep Expo going for many years to come. I think SoCal might be an option for 2022.00DC2R wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 8:43 pm Forgive me for not sifting through all of the previous posts, but has anyone ever proposed an Expo Southwest? Possibly Chuckwalla because it's pretty centrally located from L.A., San Diego, Las Vegas & Phoenix. There are other possibilities for tracks but I figured SoCal has a decent share of R's that would probably attend. Just a thought.
I hope you're improving as each day arrives.Zyg wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 4:14 pmI can probably do that next year.
Have been dealing with some post-covid knee/leg/hip issues and occasional overall joint/muscle pains.
Much better these last few weeks and have only in the last couple days gotten around to doing much of anything car-related (other than buying the Black '21 CTR).
