97 #00151 Returns

I have kept this project out of the public for many years, Here it goes:
Integras I have owned:
95 Integra GS-R
Arguably one of the best cars I have ever owned, the GS-R was fantastic. In this 2005 photo, it had an ITR wing. That car moved around the community to 3 other owners before ending in an accident. However, that owner was kind enough to send me the gauge cluster and original shift knob. I still miss this car and learned so much with it. That shift knob is now in 97 #00151.
96-spec DB8R
I still own this car. It's currently on display at the
RealTime Collection Hall
In 2016, 97 #00151 came up for sale as a shell on honda-tech.
It needed to be saved. I knew the previous owner before it was stolen, and that owner has been very generous with providing history, parts, and random items, including the original owner's manual. Some amazing members in our community including Joe / Doespike and Adam Jabaay helped get this to IL.
Fun fact, this car was built the same day as the RealTime ITR that's currently on display at Honda's private collection in CA.
To be continued...

I love these kinds of threads! It sat as a shell since 2016? Stripped interior? That's a current pic?

Awesome Jay, I look forward to updates. My pre-COVID offer resumes once we are all vaccinated.

The car sat as a shell without a drivetrain for many years before we picked it up. I'll make a separate post of what the previous owner had done with it after picking it up via auction.
There are quite a few people who helped me with this in the community, and they'll be mentioned in here as the story continues.
When I agreed to buy it, I was mostly under the impression that it needed interior and drivetrain. Although that was true, it needed quite a bit more than that. No complaints, but I quickly realized this was going to take a bit longer than I originally had planned (which was to have it ready for Expo 16 or 17!).
Photo from Joe / Doespike after picking it up:
The car was taken to Mike Sayers and sat there for a couple months as a temporary home half-way here. Eventually, Joe picked it up again and brought it to Mid-Ohio. Adam Jabaay was going to trailer it back from there for me. He was already there for an SCCA weekend, so it all worked out. We've said it many times, but our community of owners and friends is really amazing.
Photo from Mid-Ohio in summer 2016 when Joe met up with Adam Jabaay to hand it over.
Adam took it back to his shop (about an hour south of where I'm at).
Fun random note in this photo I took while going through everything...
...is this photo was used on our
www.typerexpo.com page too.
More to follow...

You are right! There are many good people in the car community. The best group of people I have met have been people I meet at the track. So helpful and just all around good people. My girlfriend even loves going to the track with me and talks to as many people as she can.
You bought the shell at a great time! I feel it is going to get harder and harder finding one. And it's a 1997, too!

Oh wow, I didn't realize that aspect of this car's journey. That remind's me of a SlipAngle podcast where Adam Jabaay was at Mid-Ohio dealing with brake issues, only due to an ancient bottle of brake fluid. It had soaked moisture leading to lower than normal brake fluid boiling.
This community is one of a kind. I remember Doespike giving me a '98 brochure after I bought 98-1040 in '07 as a gesture for finally picking up my first Type R.

This car once belong to Zygspeed / Ed. It's not his former 97 ITR Turbo. Here's an old photo from 2003 with Ed's 2 97 ITRs, #00151 with #00236 on the flatbed.
When I messaged Ed that I had purchased #00151's shell, he immediately offered assistance with items that he still had lying around. #00151 was stolen in Oct 2005 and sold at a salvage auction in Feb 2006. The previous owner of the shell had it until posting it for sale in 2016. That's a separate chapter, and I need to organize that info a bit still.
Ed brought the spare items to Mid-Ohio as well, and Adam Jabaay loaded those up in the car.
Again...our community is exceptional. It has changed a bit in recent years with the increased value of the cars, but we still a great core group of people.
With that said, Joe threw in wheels that we both kind of disliked. They came with his 98 ITR, and he had wanted to sell them. Instead, he decided to remove the steelies from the shell and put these on instead. If I remember correctly, he said, "They're your problem now."
I appreciated the humor and gesture. I did sell the wheels to a local Honda fan offset my costs into rebuilding the car.

Great to see 151 getting the love she deserves. What happened to 236? Looks like it took a serious hit

That's hilarious! :whiskey: hat tip to Joe.
