Interesting ITR auction

Anyone else see this auction?
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1998- ... type-r-20/

Things don't seem to add up. Likely a former track car? Seller knows this but not admitting it?

Curious if it was really wrecked right after the auction ended.

Anyone know anything about this car?

Anyone know about the badge number 98-0022?

VIN: JH4DC2311WS002036

***********EDIT*************
Added VIN for future buyers of this car

We know quite a bit about it and have been watching a lot of strange things in that auction. The two high bidders were both new accounts with no other activity, other than that auction. That can sometimes be shill accounts to drive up a bid or used to "buy it back" sans the BaT fee. At least, that's where I thought this was going until the wreck part came out.

The driving video? No kidding, that's even more interesting.

The previous owner from MA is a friend of Expo and a member here.

FYI the former owner who tracked this car is in our community as well as another community member who maintained this car mechanically for the current owner.

Yep, I'm the former MA owner. I bought it in 2008 with ~32,000 miles and sold it in 2014 with ~79,350.

It was definitely a track car and attended Expo 8,9,10,11,12,13 in addition to all the other track days I was able to get to.

The holes and marks on the headliner were from a Kirk roll bar and 5pt harnesses for driver and passenger. Not sure why the current(?) seller needed to admit this, they were clearly featured in the photos in the listing.

Sorry to see that it went out the way it did instead of on a track. RIP.

Hmmm, what car number did it run at Expos 12 and 13? I'm sure I have pics of it. Did it have the Mugen or stock rear wing?

Very cool for you to chime in.

I think the seller should've disclosed it being used as a track car. Photos or not, that's something almost every potential buyer wants to know.

As for it being in an accident, I'm pretty confident it wasn't. I strongly feel it was so he could get out of the BaT agreement. His YouTube video came down awfully fast.

I would love to know if the winning bidder knows the seller. Strange his account was created this month on BaT.

Although not confirmed by an actual vin photo, but rather a photo of a crashed 98, it appears the story is leaning towards the wreck on the evening of the auction close. Hopefully someone fixes it up, but sadly the title will more then likely be branded based on what I could see.
