Radiator Options with stock fans?
Radiator Options with stock fans?
I think my original 145k mile radiator is taking a crap by leaking from the lower half so I am leaning towards changing it.
Just wondering what is everyone running? I am stuck between getting a Denso replacement or going aluminum.
It looks like all OEM radiators are discontinued at acura by looking at the parts sites. Right now I am leaning towards just getting a Denso replacement since it's worked well for my other Hondas, but I did have a weird experience on an older 97 integra auto where the fans didn't mount right on the radiator.
With an aftermarket aluminum like Koyo, I seem to be getting mixed information about fans and header clearance. Are there options out there where I can use an all aluminum radiator with a JDM ITR header/heatshield plus AC? Or am I going to have to run aftermarket fans?

What motor?(B/K/J) What header? Are you focused on re-using your stock fans?

B18C1 with JDM ITR header including the upper heat shield. I also have AC. Located in Florida if that makes a difference in considering radiator types. The header is not installed so I am not sure of the clearance (waiting on exhaust pieces so i can get the cat welded to some flanges..)
I was leaning on using my stock fans.
I was also considering something like this Yonaka radiator:

I think you can still buy a new oem radiator. But it's gonna cost like $800. Maybe ask your local honda/acura dealer to source one.
But then a spoon radiator is also about $800, so that's an intriguing option.

Koyo with AC and JDM header is tight with stock fans. I made it work for awhile but ended up swapping in Spal fans instead.
Re: Radiator Options with stock fans?
I went ahead with a denso replacement for now. That and it looks like my heater inlet coolant hose is leaking from the block area. By the time I finish this leak mess I probably will have replaced everything post motor refresh

Re: Radiator Options with stock fans?
Recently I I went from a fluidyne back to stock in my quest to return my R to oem specifications and the radiator being discontinued threw a nail in the roadway on that. I thought about leaving the radiator but the aftermarket fan whine drove me nuts so I decided it had to go. I was given the original radiator when I purchased the car but was unsure what mileage it was removed. Steve at hmo sold me a oem used radiator that is supposedly low mileage with both fans .So far no problems. It looks like my usdm radiator both have the same part number. One difference is the usdm has denso in the corner. The jdm radiator has a sticker in the same place with Showa Denko as the manufacturer & Smiley face along with 202w. Both are made in Japan.

Re: Radiator Options with stock fans?
I see that you already have a radiator but for reference I will add this here.
I don't have any clearance issues on my GSR with Hytech header, full size Koyorad, and both fans (only one shown in the image). It is a little tight on the passenger side shroud but nothing to be concerned about.
The Koyorad does a much better job cooling, I see about 190*F while tracking compared to 210*F with the stock radiator, measured at the upper radiator hose.

Re: Radiator Options with stock fans?
Excellent, thank you for sharing. I have a Koyo radiator on stand-by as my 10yo radiator is starting to seep from the top. I have an SMSP header which will be similar to the HyTech.3pedalJohn wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2017 11:02 am I see that you already have a radiator but for reference I will add this here...
