In the process of restoring 98-408 ITR

I bough the ITR in 99 from local dealer with 20k miles, still only ~73K miles on chassis, had sold wheels, seats and original short block to upgrade for Autocross/Hillclimb. Restoring now, since it will be the only street legal Manual I own to teach my son to drive a manual. I have almost all the parts needed and still had most original parts, from shocks to mats (except trunk) and strut bars. except seats and short block and wheels. I almost have everything except for a CAT and oversize pistons.
It has been a while since I needed to look up these details, but I remember that the short block numbers below B18C5 could be deciphered to a VIN number? Is that correct? or the only place for VIN tag on motor is on the transmission? TIA
