ITR Rear Glass Molding, Cutout purpose?

Post by GeHonda » Thu Apr 13, 2023 4:30 pm

Question for the ITR gurus or anyone who has replaced the exterior rear hatch glass molding on a DC2.

I have a BNIB OEM molding and I noticed there are some cutouts on the molding with some waviness in those cutouts as shown below.

I haven't pulled my old hatch apart yet in preparation for paint. I was wondering if these cutouts or waves serve any purpose or if they were just some sloppy work from Honda's contract manufacturer? Is this to allow for a radius bend around the top corners, etc.? Any insight appreciated!

Would like to hear from those who have had this done as well, was wondering about the almost 90 degree bends on the top side of the glass. I've had my molding laying out flat for almost a year now, it was like a pretzel when I got it in the box from Acura. Still has some twist to it even now
