Thursday Musings: 996TT or CTR?
Thursday Musings: 996TT or CTR?
Yeah, yeah, yeah... Car ADD is a legit problem for me.
I’ve had the 996TT for a little over a year and find myself day dreaming over whether it would be worth it to swap out to a CTR. I’ll freely admit that the stock CTR looks still don’t completely do it for me but they look pretty damn good with a slight drop and some smaller wheels. Also seems like it would be a better fit for my current lifestyle since I’ve been taking the kids to more activities/stuff and, though they fit in the 996, it’s tight.
So, am I dumb? Do I stick with what I’ve got or start looking around? Also, what’s pricing like on the CTR currently? I’ve seen several folks getting them at sticker but wasn’t sure if that’s common now or the exception to the rule.

Just get on the old interweb and do a little digging around and you will find places that are selling at MSRP. May have to drive a bit to get 1 or fly in and drive home but it sure beats paying in some cases 10k over sticker price.

Aren't 996 turbos going up in price now? I don't see the mythical 28k 996 turbo anymore.
There is still a markup at the Tampa dealers, not sure if they negotiate. I don't have a problem with the dealers with service and parts, but I hate dealing with sales.
Try that dealer in Alabama where Angela got hers? I think she got hers at MSRP.

I sold a 997 Turbo for an Type R. Worst mistake of my life. Please don’t do this.

Any particular reason for the regret? Everyone I’ve talk with who owns a CTR has had great stuff to say about the handling dynamics. These are experienced wheel to wheel and autox folks so they’re people I trust to know how a “good” car drives. One of my buddies was coming out of a Boxster S and said the CTR was sharper/better in essentially every way.

I haven't driven a CTR but with all the modern standards I feel like most current cars have lost a lot of the raw\direct driving experience. That's not to say they aren't faster, better handling, more efficient, it just seems like the experience is a more removed and sanitized. None of that really matters if primary consideration is family portage.
A CTR as a family wagon could be cool but I have a hard time believing that the 996TT isn't the sexier funner car.

Is the use-case for spirited daily commuter?
Funny, I read “996T” and immediately thought of you.

Yes? Mostly commuter/street car. Very occasional autox and track car... been getting to that stuff less and less lately. Planning to maybe do some GridLife Touring Cup and/or Enduro wheel to wheel this year if the schedule works.
FWIW, something like a Civic Si would probably be a smarter choice buuuut I’ve always found it so tough to pass up anything that’s “Type R”.
