Hagerty's Thoughts on the ITR

Post by Gotin » Tue Apr 23, 2019 12:30 pm

My ITR is insured by Hagerty and I was invited to join an online discussion on price trends for Spring of 2019. After the 2 representatives were talking about the latest trends of car values they took questions. My question was chosen about the price trend of the ITR. Below is the video that I took quickly with my phone (on my lunch break at work). You may need to adjust the bass on your volume.

I like the comments about it having the right DNA. I sold my 97 Porsche Carrera 4S (993) and lived through a rapid increase in prices. I could see the writing on the wall that the ITR had potential to hold value or increase.

Limited production and numbered
Features exclusive to Type R such as colors.
Lightweight race version for the street (Just look at 964 RS)
Simple to work on and reliable.
Enjoyable driving experience.
CW ITR 01-1233 CDM Sold
CW ITR 98-0635 CDM
CW CTR 17-01818 CDM

Yes the right DNA is a good way to put it. They changed so many small parts on the ITR and brought it all into a well engineered balance that still feels like an OEM spec vehicle. From all the internal engine changes to suspension, brakes etc. It's just really cool they did ALL THAT. They didn't just add stiffer sway bars and shocks and call it a day.

Does Hagerty put a limit on the number of miles your R can be driven?

When we bought our R back in 2010, Hagerty would not insure it. At the time they didn't consider it a collector or specialty car.

Our R has been insured with stated value with our insurance company and they limit the number of days you can drive and not the miles. How would they know how many days is beyond me.

I am using Grundy. I tried Hagerty but for some reason they were a PITA to deal with. Grundy was cake comparatively and a little cheaper. I had previously used American Hobbiest (now called American Collectors) on my old PY but they couldnt meet the same price point as Grundy.

Most collector car insurance companies will limit mileage and type of miles (recreation, weekend cruises, shows, etc).

***edit**** 5k miles per year. I do know that when it was set up last year, they placed a replacement cost of $18k. I had it moved to $25k and included replacement vales of the motor, wheels and body. The broker was able to do all this for me with a better rate then the previous big name insurance company I was using.

Hagerty gave hoops when I tried to register the 97, despite the previous owner using Hagerty. I recently did a quote for Grundy online but apparently didn't click "register." Switching insurance is on my action list.

I'm using Hagerty and they have been very easy to work with. They agreed to my stated value of $25k.

Mind sharing what you are paying annually for that coverage? I forget what my coverages are but can look it up. I pay about $350/yr
