SIM Racing Setup - iRacing / ProjectCars / Others

Post by coolhandluke » Tue May 12, 2020 12:39 pm

Who here has or plans to build a SIM setup? The current world events were the compelling event for me to finally spend the coin. I intend to get back into my iRacing account combined with Project Cars to practice new and familiar tracks.

My setup:
-Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Wheel
-Fanatec Podium hub + shifters
-Fanatec CSL Elite (PS4) wheel base
-Fanatec Clubsport pedals

I have the Logitech G920 wheel, pedal and shifter set. It worked ok with Forza 7 and Project Cars 2, but the brake pedal feels like you need to stand on it to get it to actually do anything. Been looking into that and also the bigger issue...the wheel doesn't fit on the desk. So I need to get some other rig or something for the mounting process.

Having a setup like this with a manual trans/clutch pedal really sounds fun!

I haven't played video games since college, but might consider this!

Selecting a rig is what has delayed me this far. This shelter in place prompted me to finally step up and make the purchase. I need to finish troubleshooting WiFi card issue and I'm ready to finish Project Cars setup.

My buddy and his bro are pretty into it. I can ask them any questions you may have if you want. They did say the hydraulic setup was distracting while racing and got rid of it.

That is an awesome setup! I would be curious on their input for a rig.

I'm troubleshooting what appears to be a faulty PCIe Wifi card, so I've yet to fire up my system.

That is quite the desk setup! I should finish mounting my remaining Type R prints once the pandemic subsides. I have 12x mounted thus far. Your memorabilia are inspiring me.

I don't have a recent photo of mine but will get one soon. We had some water in the basement a couple weekends ago...

Thrustmaster T300RS (I don't care about a third pedal for these)
Bob Earl VRC MKII seat http://www.bobearl.net/VirtualRacingChassis.htm

I like the VRC setup, designed by this Bob Earl < https://www.bobearl.net/resume.html >

It wasn't as common the playseat, etc.

iRacing and I aren't really friends. I realize setup might be playing a large role and need to adjust it. I find it worrisome that I can instruct on a particular track and then barely get 2 or 3 laps in iRacing without an issue. I want to try rfactor next.

A friend has this setup. I considered buying before, now I wish I had, as I see it is no longer made.
