Recaro seat question

Post by L1MTD » Fri Jan 22, 2021 4:35 pm

I wanted to put this out there to a much smarter group than just myself. My incoming JDM ITR has the black Recaros and while they are in excellent condition from the pics I've seen, with only 55k miles, I just had to have the red ones.

I found some for sale listed as "mint" and that's what I was after since the rest of the interior and car seem the same.

Once caveat though: the are both the same "side".

Meaning, both have the angle adjuster knob on the same side. On the JDM ITR's, it actually seems the adjuster knob is on the inside (center of interior)which seems odd to me. So mine will have the RHD drivers seat adjuster by the door and the passenger will be towards the ebrake.

My question is this (and I should have asked before I bought): will this cause any mounting issues with the sliders/rails? I cant imagine it would (this same model of Recaro has the adjuster on both sides, oddly enough, just not on the ITR/CTR JDM cars).

I imagine they should bolt to the DC2 rails without an issue and the side the adjuster is on really shouldn't matter as you have access on either side since there isnt a center console like on the USDM cars. But, am I totally wrong on this?

Recaro seat question

Post by aklackner » Fri Jan 22, 2021 5:46 pm

I’m nearly certain that the adjuster isn’t on the inside on the JDM seats. This can sometimes be done to hide wear to the drivers seat, by swapping seats side to side.

Though if there is no center armrest as present in a USDM car, clearance wouldn’t be an issue I guess. So it would be more of an aesthetic thing.

The Recaro pattern is rectangular 4(m6) iirc so mounting shouldn’t be an issue.

Thank you for the reply. In one of the photos of my car I thought it clearly looked like the driver seat adjuster was on the inside.

Maybe I’m seeing it wrong or they did what you’re saying which is swap for seat wear purposes.

Just glad to hear that it shouldn’t cause an issue mounting. I’d rather have clean seats on both and can live with one of the adjusters being on “the wrong” side.

Thanks!

All three of my JDM ITR Recaros sets (red and black) had the lower recline adjuster on the inside, by the USDM armrest console. The quick recline lever was top facing the door.

I don't recall the seat mounting to be different between Driver/Passenger, just the respective seat rails.

x2 on the lower adjuster being on the inside. Although it is weird. The upper knobs which are on both sides are to tip the whole upper forward.

I'm pretty sure (but haven't attempted yet) that you can dismantle and swap the adjuster to the other side.

Thanks fellas! Excited to get them in when the car arrives.

I don’t want to haul the black ones home from SoCal so I may list them here if the boys at Toprank don’t mind facilitating someone picking them up.

I swapped the rails on my Recaros to have the lower adjuster knobs on the outside. I also swapped the seatbelt to have the SRS connector on the USDM driver side. You must de-pin the connector to get the wire through the hole to do this.
