Coilover setup suggestion?

Suggestions on coilover setup? Looking for something suitable for spirited drives and occasional track days. Was considering shock and spring combo but having future adjustability is ideal.

I enjoy my Buddy Club Sport Spec coilovers. I haven't done any track days with them, but I did daily drive the car for a while and they were comfortable. Also felt good for touge runs (hard spirited driving).

While not on my Type R I use Progress Tech CS2s on my 99 Civic Si. Great price and different options for spring rates. This is my daily and drives great over rough roads and handles nicely when spirited, not to harsh. The have these available for Type R rear control arms.

I did just purchased a set of Apexi N1 EXV coils for my 96 spec JDM ITR so if this thread is still going I'm happy to post feedback for anyone looking at these as an option.

I was looking at the Buddy Club Sport Spec as well but couldn't get an estimate ship date from anyone as no one had them in stock when I was inquiring.

Thank you for describing your use-cases. I would recommend cruising this tech thread on the topic as you plan your update:

What is your budget? There are some long standing and validated setups:

Option 1: Koni yellow + Ground Control adjustable height springs
Budgent: $~500 used to ~$1000 new
Why: Easily rebuildable throughout the US. When a damper fails (happens to any brand), there are numerous Koni dealers across the US to rebuild to repair or rebuild to enhance the off the shelf (OTS) performance. Enhancing includes the shortening services, etc.
More: Swap springs to higher rates or rebuild for more performance oriented valving, length, etc., as desired. Several in this community can offer first hand feedback.
Con: Need to procure top hats + hardware or reuse OEM.

Option 2: PIC Select R3's
Budget: ~$900-1200 used (unsure if available new)
Why: Solid performance per price. Several in this community can offer first hand feedback.
Con: Not US made nor serviceable.


Higher end:
Option 1: Eibach Multi-Pro R2's. Best value play for double-adjustable and remote reservoir. Support a wide range of spring rates, from 400lb to 1200lb+. Manufactured in USA and serviceable in the USA. Several in this community can offer first hand feedback.
Cost: ~$1850-2500
Con: No longer made. Some knowledge required to dial in, but this applies to any two-way.

Option 2: MCS for single, double, and double w/ remote reservoir.
Costs: Depend upon choice, used would be ~$1200+ (deals pop up)
Con: Knowledge need to spec for purchase and tune. This applies to any higher end damper.


There are some other entrants to the market that I don't have first hand experience with, hence why I recommend reviewing our thread above.

not sure if PIC is still in business but I had a horrible experience with them and if you look them up on honda-tech you will see lots of horror threads. It appears some times he delivered on time/good products and other times he just took years and had nothing but excuses.

i personally really enjoy my koni gc setup and like the guys over at ground control. They are helpful and try to provide a good "Starting setup" for your application.

also, one of the most important things is to get your suspension tuned. its generally a few hundred dollars but getting the car height + aligned + corner balanced can make a real difference in driveability. my old 98r was on rails and a few people (non track people) have said its one of the best driving itr's they ever drove because it didnt feel like a hack job. just as you would tune your engine after some mods, you should tune your suspension setup. it really allows you to get the most out of it.

I'm sad to learn that. I owned two sets across two ITR's, zero issues. PIC used to sponsor several Honda Challenge members and members of this community, and even lead suspension seminars at Expos in the past. I haven't spoken to Al/etc. in years now though and I see the PIC website is down, so they might be out of business. I know it's been a tough 18mo for small businesses. :(

KW V3's

Stainless steel body (wont corrode) height adjustable, compression and rebound adjustable. No magic 36 way adjustment, one click changes the way the valves work.

I've had them on all my Integra's and Civic's i've owned 5 sets of these over the years.

German made, US based office and fully serviceable. I've used them on the street and now the occasional track day, they work great and ride great. Well worth the money.

Ohlins seems like a great option too. I have not experienced them yet, but I do have a set on my shelf.

I am hearing Ohlins for ITR is discontinued. Our buddy Jason managed to find a set of new old stock so there are still some out there.

I am running Spoon progressive springs and shocks (provided by Dave above!) No height or dampening adjustments but it's really a nice balance for street and track. I had Tein Monosport before and found them unbearable on bumpy roads.

KW V3 is a solid choice too.

I agree, KWv3 are also an excellent option in the medium-high band, similar in line with Eibach Multi-Pro R2's. Expo sponsors have sold them in the past.
